Need to emulate the Dees 2019 draft. Jackson & Kosi are guns! Plus they nailed the Oliver & Petracca picks & traded in established gun defenders (May & Lever).

They also made some tough calls such as trading out Hogan to get May.

Our 2013/14 drafts were like Melbourne’s drafts from the first rebuild when they took Trengove, Scully (traitor) & Morton.

Hopefully the Max King draft is our Petracca/Oliver moment where we’ve turned it around.

We desperately need Clark to get to work this preseason. The coach should be having tough conversations with him about pulling his finger out. We shouldn’t be blaming the coach for not playing him in the midfield. Clark needs to own it & give the coach no other choice!

Also, no more stupid trades like Hill & Hanneberry. Jones & Higgins type trades yes please.

Small chance but if gws don't rate Callaghan that much would they trade 2, and a future first for 9, our future first and picks like our future second and a pick for battle?

I doubt it but see them struggling next year and Callaghan could be an elite mid quickly.

Think we should explore all options to get a hold of pick 2 including something like your suggestion. GWS are probably more interested in a KPP ?

I would be happy to trade 9, F2 (28-32) and Battle for pick 2 and F3.

Not really sure we even need the swap of futures. Battle on an open market would fetch a late 2nd/early 3rd rounder would he? Depending on how much someone needs him. Happy to add a swap of F3 and F4 to sweeten it.

Just a reminder...
Saints Players off list end of 2020 -

Shane Savage, Nathan Brown, Logan Austin, Ryan Abbot, Ed Phillips, Matthew Parker, Nick Hind, Jack Bell, Jonathon Marsh, Doulton Langlands, Jack Mayo.
= 11 off.

Saints Players onto list for 2021

Brad Crouch, Jack Higgins, James Frawley, Shaun McKernan, Matt Allison, Mason Wood, Tom Highmore, Paul Hunter, Max Heath, Cooper Sharman = 10 on.

Yeah maybe giving up a little much, clearly if we're approaching them the deal would need to be pretty compelling. The minimum I think we could get away with might be 9, Battle & F2 (28-32) for 2 & F2 (30-34)

Be nice if we were at least showing interest in either of these two. Essendon supposedly interested in Chol - they must be expecting a 62 man list next year.

Who isnt Essendon interested in!

But yeah would happily bring in either of those 2.

Seen a few phantom drafts with a number of mids falling to 14 (16) which is the pick I would target. Sinn, Sonsie, Chessar, Rachele, Goater all been mentioned around 16 with Hobbs probably the exception consistently being touted as a top 6 selection. Ward might be a good one at our natural 9 (11) but looks pretty similar to those mentioned above. The second pick 18 (20) could be used on say Sam Butler or another slider, even that bolter Aleer (KPD) who looks ridiculous.

I get why people would want to hold onto the higher pick, but with the following drafts to be filled with kids missing a full two years of their development, they will be seriously hit and miss with an overall drop in quality I would think. As such, two shots in the top 20 this year to me would be a great result. (also prevents two teams from selecting one of our NGA's at that crucial point in the draft). Still would prefer to shoot for Callaghan though as I'd rather have 1 all round star than 2 good mids when we have a glut of the ordinary in there currently.
To get a second pick inside top 20 Billings would have to be picked up and possible Battle. 2 picks inside top 20 would be a great result.

Essendon already has 12 players 195cm or taller on their list, how many do they need. If anyone else that tall nominates Essendon then i hope they enjoy the VFL.

Smith had a good deal on the table by the Dees and said no I'm going to Geelong, who's laughing now.
Smith is! Living the rest of his life on a beautiful coastline and getting paid a fortune to kick a leather ball. There are more things to consider than a win-loss ratio

They inquiry about anyone like most the teams, at least we do it a bit more discretely.
Having Billings and Ross still unsigned means they could be weighing what happens during trade period because they know most teams would be waiting if any salary cap openings happen to let teams fit them in.
A hell of a lot will depend on if one , both or none move on.

I feel this draft could be one of the strongest in depth for a long time , just the lack of games because of Covid 19 has most probably hidden the quality of a lot of players.

I've been banging on about if for a while, but it isn't a coincidence we've used one top 40 pick on a mid in 6 years and we don't have an elite mid to go with Steele.

Top sides are stacked with good mids and they are normally found at the top end of the draft.

For the love of god, please use this years first on a genuine mid. And not a flanker that has potential to be a mid.

Sharman, Wilkie, Highmore etc are proof you can find gems in other areas but very rarely to you find an elite mid late in the draft.
My remote will go through the TV if we don’t use it on a midfielder. Hopefully watching the amount of quality mids in this grand final for both teams will finally inspire us to hit the draft hard for them.

Picture this. We pick a 48kg key forward project and then both Owens and windy get picked 19 and 20.

Clark really needs to step up in fitness and stamina over the off-season, otherwise he is wasting his skills.

Probably got our eye on a 145cm diabetic mature age HBF that we think we can turn into a ruckman.

I hope any of them that don't turn up get left at Sandy, no guys selected on average form. We need to get some selection integrity.

I liked his start to the year as a mid but of course when Crouch and Jones came back he got pushed out of there.

Being one of the strongest in depth for sometime, if we don’t trade our players we will miss out on the party.

Crouch isn’t doing anything special that Clark couldn’t do himself. All he does is consistently get the ball 25-35 times. If Clark can do that plus add 1-2 special evady highlight things Crouch’s spot is gettable. Jones is too dynamic and pacey for Clark to compete with.

Crouch doesn't get much recognition , we all know Steele is the most prolific tackler in the game however Crouch is not to far behind ranked 18th in the league and he averages 26.4 touches a game so Clark would have to more than just take a step up next season.
Crouch was not spectacular but his defensive part of his game has improved from his Crow days.
He has been a very good pick up and will be core to our midfield for a while yet and having Gresham back next year and hopefully Jones plays more than half a season Clark will get his rotations through the midfield and hopefully he shows he the player we have been wanting.
No doubt there will be injuries and he will get more than a chance , it's just a pity he only played basically half a season as well.

Not fit enough to run both ways. He even looks unfit. Needs to tighten up the rig over the off season.

Agree. Hope he comes back really hungry especially as he missed so much footy.

But all Clark has to do to take Crouch is do what he’s already doing a lot better. The other mids do things he just can’t do. Like run fast or be dynamic
