Agree, but if the tables were turned, I wouldn't begrudge Richmond sending a player to the PSD without a favorable deal.
Despite what many of my fellow supporters think, the psd is there to help the bottom clubs get us contracted players without giving up anything in return.
Wouldn’t have begrudged north for doing it at all.
it is what it’s there for after all.

What do the North supporters think he is?

A good get?

Or just another hack to throw money at?

Clearly both clubs rate him a B grade player IMO.

Helps with a hole in our current list, should be a consistent member in the best 22 next year.

I honestly don't know. But the self flagellation by some Tigers supporters is embarrassing to say the least.

I do know that Glen Luff would have to have signed off on this. He is very astute and knows what we are looking for.

So, in Glen I trust.

I sort of feel players owe clubs if a direct result of what they’ve done has cost the club $100k fine and cost somebody their job. Instead of sacking the players on the spot like many were calling for they instead back the 2 players in. One of those players, the one from an underprivileged background decides to repay the club and signs a one year incentivised contract and earn back the trust of the club, the other decides to piss in the face of the club and leave for a long term contract somewhere else. Think it shows a bit about the character of the kid.

Yeah Richmond didn’t sack CCJ out of the kindness of their heart or because they see them as talented footballers?

Stupid to think CCJ should turn down guaranteed money because the AFL fined Richmond

With respect I am a Richmond supporter and we are experts on being cellar dwellers. Its only been twenty or so years for the blues, you still have a lot to learn and so do North it would appear.

Looks like Melbourne learn't their lesson but premiership droughts do that to clubs

What lesson is that? That we shouldn't trade for players that we see have a potential upside?

Melbourne's full back line is Michael Hibberd, Steven May and Jake Lever, not exactly home grown. They have also picked up a few players that didn't work out. Success or failure ultimately comes if enough of who you bring in via draft or trade get to a good enough standard or not.

A better than average role player with lots of good footy ahead of him who will help provide the structure for our plethora of ultra talented high end mids and mid/forwards to dominate.

What does who I support have to do with it?

I’m not for the whole drag out a trade in the hope of forcing the opposition club move that Essendon and other clubs have employed in the past.
You are questioning Richmond and how they trade, have you not seen the way we trade the last 5 years? If a player wants to move they go with our blessing and we often take unders to do the right thing by the player. We never let things drag on. I can’t remember a player leaving in recent history that has pissed off the club as much as this one. Footy karma has a funny way of evening up things however.

A good get. He fixes a list hole for us.
Heres how i think it goes.
North offer pick 69. Richmond reject it and ask for pick 20.
It drags on for a considerable amount of trade week.
Gets done last minute for pick 38.
Considering pick 38 doesn't have much use to the tigers, I can see this being a PSD job.
Both clubs will be a long way apart imo.

I agree. He will be walked to the PSD

Your club don't rate him as highly as North and the offers reflect that.

Maybe the fault lies with RFC?

He is a 22 year old KPP, not a lot of them shine at that age but I thought he did well this year for Richmond, was clunking some marks, kicked a few goals, it has been a bit of a weakness for us, we don't have anyone to kick to other than Larkey who can take a contested mark.

He hasn't played much in the ruck for Richmond, at either VFL or AFL level, but he has looked better in the games I have seen up forward. I am not sure he will make it as an AFL grade ruckman but I get the feeling the club would prefer to utilise two ruck/forwards in the future instead of a more specialised ruckman (probably why we took Edwards in the MSD instead of Moyle or Mirkov).

It doesn't seem like the trade will cost us a lot, given our ladder position, it is unfortunate for Richmond, it is always the pits having to trade with the team on the bottom of the ladder because you lose a lot of your bargaining power and there is always the looming threat of the PSD option if you dig in too hard.

That being said, I'd prefer if we can do a trade for him and hopefully look at a higher calibre player via PSD if one becomes available.

I think the Tigers would take 38.

If he was contracted I would want 20.

If North was nowhere near #1 PSD then I'd want RFC to ask for 20 for CCJ + 44 maybe.

Given we have our pants down at the moment I would accept 38 and send it elsewhere for an upgrade. WB being the obvious choice.

17 for 38 + 40 + 44 would give them another 231 points to throw at Darcy. They might want more points to get it over the line so maybe swap 38 for 28, then Tigers hit the draft with 7, 15, 17, 26, 38.

If we nail this draft we could be set for a decade, with guys like Balta, Bolton, Baker, Graham etc on the list already.

I think they will accept 38 very late in the trade quarter (I say 'quarter' because it seems to go for three months).
Richmond have 44 and 46 as well which they probably won't use.
38, 44 and 46 could be packaged to a Pies or Dogs who need points for Daicos and Darcy.
I think Richmond will ask for a future 2nd rounder rather than 38 late in proceedings as well, but North will say "take 38 or nothing".

Tbh given the work we've clearly put into getting him over the line, I doubt we want to drag this out.

You guys still have a decent squad.
I would be grabbing mids with those picks.
Cotch prestia and co are probably less than reliable these days.

Agree and clubs don't purpoesly set out to shaft other clubs.
They have to do business every 12 months.
I'd hate for us to do a Dodoro with Houli.
Houli was taken at 47 by Essendon, played very little only showed glimpses of signs.
Dodora demanded a 2nd rounder and Richmond offered 46.
In the end he went to the PSD.
Swings and roundabouts.
I hope North play fair, but within reason given they hold the upper hand, but I also hope Richmond don't be pigheaded like Dodoro.

Its so early anything could happen yet.
But a couple of things may speed it up.
If the tigers want the pick to bundle up for the dogs first.
or If North have another trade target they would like to threaten PSD pick one with.
Both seem reasonable chances of happening.

38 works for us if we get it early enough that we can trade it in a package for a pick upgrade. If we drag it out until the last day and Dogs have already traded their first to someone else, then 38 doesn't achieve much for us.

It's in our best interests to cut our losses and take pick 38 on day 1 if it's offered. Why on earth would holding out entice North to up their offer? If we hold out they can pull the offer and just ask CCJ to nominate for the PSD.

The only exception would be if North offered their future 2nd instead, or we thought we could convince them of that instead. That IMO will still be a top 25-30 pick even with their expected improvement.

I like the idea of using next years second round pick.

Shows that the club are backing themselves in. There is only small risk in doing it as we will still have our first; unlike the Pies this year.

I'd take the offer for sure. I expect North to improve, but IMO it won't be a jump into finals, so it should still be a pick inside 30, and at best (for us) they could still be bottom 4 making it an early 20s pick.

I was not questioning Richmond. I said if they try and dig their heels and not trade him for a reasonable deal then it will reflect badly on them not North

Richmond wouldn’t be able to say yes fast enough if North offer their future 2nd rounder

Spot on.

Not sure what part of "no leverage" the same Richmond posters seem to be unable to grasp.

CCJ for Norths current or future 2nd round pick is about as realistic as Mr Magic playing for Richmond next year.

I don't think North will be Cellar Dwellers for as long as you think Magicman.

Absolutely taking their list going fowards over the Crows, Pies, Saints, Hawks, Cats, Eagles etc

Need another young KPD and maybe another midfield bull to eventually replace Cunnington and a speedy wingman, and another good key Foward to help Larkey, but they have the ingredients of a really good team on the rise.
They’re best 3 players are ancient lol
