Now that the US again has a non-insane president...

I would call trying to cancel Christmas, Easter and every other Christian holiday in a Christian country a bigger attack on Christianity. It's not the Republicans that want this to occur.

You're living in an alternate reality if you truly believe this bullshit. I hope you don't go as far as buying into the lie that Obama never said "Merry Christmas" despite clips throughout his presidency showing him saying "Merry Christmas".

You’re all adults so I am sure you can see how this little stretch of personal bickering looks. We all do it but when it goes for multiple pages without the mentioning the thread topic it’s time to chill.

So to tie it back in - like Joe, we should all forget it.

The crowded cells in a Florida immigration detention facility have been doused daily with caustic disinfectants, reportedly causing breathing problems and bleeding for many detainees. The chemicals in the disinfectants are linked to long-term damage to human cells and to reproductive health.

Unfortunately the plight of victimised immigrants has not received the same attention since Trump left the White House, as many media figures and establishment Democrats no longer need to perform concern. The United States' detention of immigrants remains an inhumane nightmare, and one that seems to be getting no better under Biden, if not worse.

The treatment of illegals is a blight, and not one easy to fix, as, like in Australia, being seen to be cruel to them is seen as being "tough". And not being cruel, and I mean, not being cruel, not, being kind, is seen as weak.

That the liberals get caught between support for these causes, and fuelling the fire of criticism of Democratic governments as weak, is a blight.

They should ramp up the pressure on Democrat presidents, as it's more likely to work with them, while trying to reframe the debate as , cruel v not cruel, rather than strong v weak.

The irony is, Republican presidents would probably find it easier to introduce humane measures and get away with it, for the same reason Democrats cannot.

Right wing media would not have attacked Trump as weak, they would have said, see, he is humane. Biden they would portray as senile and weak.

Republicans could get away with doing it, but just don't want to.

Democrats want to, but don't feel they can.

Media on both sides spin to suite.

Nothing new here.

The Republicans (and right generally) are constantly pushing unpopular policy that they know would, in itself, cost them, but as part of a suite of issues they hope will cause them minimal problems. The Democrats (and Labor here) are so scared of their own shadow that they refuse to do it. Issues such as free universal health care are hugely popular in the US, but Biden has totally ruled it out - so it's not as though they're just trying to do popular things. It's frankly cowardice.

You're right that Trump did respond to the kids in cages backlash with backing down in a small win for humanity. The possibility was there to continue to make the case against the abject cruelty of people suffering, when the general population's sympathy for them was at a high. But instead the status quo remains. "We'll do the same thing as the right-wing, we'll just feel kinda bad about it."

Fox are never tethered to anything. it will not surprise one bit if they decide to spend a week or month to destroy Trump just for shits and giggles.

Then they will forget Trump ever existed and move on to attacking Biden. Attacking from opposition is what they do best.

While they are doing this Murdoch will choose his next candidate.

And then we can do it all again.

Absolutely Fox chose Trump.

This is the weird thing about all of this.

Trump never gets elected without Fox. Fox promoted him mercilessly. Sure he is useful to Fox but lots of people are. Fox will find someone new.

Trump never gets elected without the GOP either. The Trump base is nowhere near big enough.

Also, Trump never gets elected without the Tea Party. Trump simply co-opted the Tea Party base and then grew it and married it to the traditional GOP base.

Trump has not actually created anything. Including his base. It was already there just waiting for the right person to tie it all together. That was Fox with Trump.
How is this coming along? Have Fox moved on from Trump yet? I told you it wouldn't be that easy. They're tethered to their audience. And apparently their audience still likes Trump.

A Twitter thread that ought to be looked at, and noted that for the Democrats apparently regretfully going along with inhumane treatment of refugees, they're certainly doing it with some gusto.

Haiti is facing a humanitarian nightmare. The only slave colony to ever rise up in a successful revolution against their masters, their existence has been one of larger powers such as France and the United States punishing and exploiting them. With the advent of Covid-19, the exacerbation of poverty has reached a point where many are fleeing rather than staying.

Images have been released (on above Twitter thread) of horseback Border Patrol agents attacking the Haitian asylum seekers with whips. Trump invoked Title 42 to expel over 440,000 asylum seekers without their right to hearings. Under Biden, 690,000+ people have been expelled under the same.

While it’s not good at all, is that a similar rate? I saw something about lots more people at the border and lots more people trying multiple times to cross.
