WA win! Exciting end to a boring game. Van Rooyen kicks a goal with a minute to go to win the game.

SA players are very ordinary. Wanganeen Milera was very good. Some awesome kicks.

Van Rooyen played well.

Johnson...ok..didn't dominate. He has a tiny bit of Pendles.

Hough did some nice things.

Farmer was a nice small forward. (wet toast academy?)

I loved the game of Arthur Jones. Playing wing...pushing forward. He was friggin awesome. Works hard. gets the ball, takes off immediately with jets and creates something. Apparently he is not rated? Want!

Jahmal Stretch was also really exciting as a small forward who could crumb and fly for a speccy.

Anyone know much about these two guys?

Looks like NWM will likely be out of our reach the way he is trending.

Maybe we sell some players that people like us don't want to see go, in order to hit this and next year's drafts hard?

Start the rebuild now and get a flying start, cos we are so far off a flag it's ridiculous.

Matty Johnson was pretty good yesterday, not sure he’ll make a huge impact in his first season which ideally is where we’d the most help in the midfield. By the time he’s ready to impact you’d expect guys like Rozee, Butters and maybe even Mead to be ready to go as well. I think at our pick we’d get one of Johnson, Matty Roberts, Connor MacDonald, Josh Goater or Campbell Chessar. A midfield of the future of one of those guys, Rozee, Butters, Amon, Wines, Mead and Duursma holds us in good stead.

I would be against talking a tall with our first pick, although I like Jacob Van Rooyen and Jack Williams there are a bunch of top end tall forwards and defenders next year, heaps from SA as well (Lemmey, Tuck, Scully, Pitt, Cockshell, Keeler, Marshall) as well as other SA boys like Magor, Ryan and D’Aloia.
It’s hard to predict who’ll be there with our late picks but a tall defender or project ruck/forward could be found. Harrison Nolan from Coburg and obviously Sam Skinner are probably the two best ready made defenders.
Oscar Adams was good yesterday, still pretty raw but at 197cm with nice foot skills wouldn’t be the worst pick. For me an ideal draft would be Matty Johnson, Jase Burgoyne and Oscar Adams.

If Roberts makes it to our pick then there must be some serious red flags about his athleticism and afl traits. He's had a fantastic year and finished it off by being a solid contributor to a league sanfl side.

And if there's one thing we know about port is that we tend to draft athletes. I think Roberts is unlikely to land at Port.

The importance of nailing your high picks - a case study.

St Kilda selected:
2013 - Jack Billings (3) over Marcus Bontempelli (4)
2014 - Paddy McCartin (1) over Christian Petracca (2)
2015 - Traded pick 5 & 24 for Jake Carlisle (Parish & Keays - noting Dunkley went 1 pick later)
2016 - Traded 10 for 2017 pick 7 & Pick 25 (Ben Long - Parfitt, Lipinski, Bolton next three picks)
2017 - Hunter Clark (7) & Nick Coffield (8) over Aaron Naughton (9)

Imagine a St Kilda side with:
  • Bont over Billings
  • Petracca over McCartin
  • Parish & Dunkley over Carlisle
  • Shai Bolton over Long
  • Clark & Naughton over Clark & Coffield
That midfield + Jack Steele, and a Naughton/King forwardline would absolutely slap!

If they had Bont, Petracca and Dunkley then they'd have no need for Steele and that trade wouldn't have happened.
