Foxfooty.com.au understands the AFL is anticipating the national draft will be able to run across two nights, with Round 1 on Wednesday November 24 followed by Round 2 onwards on Thursday November 25. It’s then hoped the pre-season and rookie drafts will be held on the afternoon of Friday November 26.

Prospects from South Australia, Western Australia, NSW, ACT, Queensland and Northern Territory will also have extra chances to impress recruiters in a competitive match situation, with two more Under 19 challenge matches announced.

SA will host an Allies team on Sunday at Thebarton Oval then take on WA again on October 10.

Jacob van Rooyen. Coming good at the back end of the year after dealing with glandular fever during the year. That will slow you down.

I've a suspicion will move up the order on draft night.

Twomey rates Roberts and Goater around our pick 16.

If we could move our pick 16 up to around 10 to 12 we could be in the market for someone like Erasmus, van Rouyen or Draper.

Otherwise getting a couple of extra picks in the 20 to 35 range (after our pick 16, and hopefully before a bid on Burgoyne comes) could put us in the frame for the likes of Goater, Aleer, Bazzo, Dittmar or Sinn.

JVR has some things to like, he’s a solid mark in the backlines and knows how to get to the drop of the ball and protect it with his frame.

But I see him being something like Brennan Cox at afl level.

He's only around Pasini's height, isn't he? I would like a taller defender, might need to be imaginative with a late pick mobile ruckman who won't be an AFL ruck.

As someone who only starts paying attention to the potential draftees around this time of year, I don’t understand why Jase Burgoyne has slipped so far. A year ago, he seemed to be considered a top 30-40 pick at least. His few games with the SANFL senior side impressed me and he seems to put up high numbers consistently at U18 level.
Is him sliding a function of his form, deficiencies and perceived low ceiling or just that others in the draft pool are much better?

In other words are we just getting a less injury prone version of his older brother, who we’ll pick up simply because of the family connection and feel-good factor, or can the kid still play?

Deficiencies and low ceiling. Lacks hurt factor and plays half back. Bad combination.

Ouch. Why bother then?

You've seen him play. Kid has jets, lateral movement, tackles, can get 40 possessions in a game and multiple clearances. Skinny but tall enough, around 185cm.

Could be an absolute steal.

Twomey rates Roberts and Goater around our pick 16.

Interesting to see goater so far back. He’s not the immediate answer we need to a midfielder. He can be in time but reckon he spends a decent apprenticeship at halfback… but he’s a quality prospect who I reckon is not likely to bust.

Spewing that rachele seems to be thought of as out of our range. Whether he’s a midfielder or a forward what he offers at either spot we really need. He’s got a great way of winning contested ball and taking it out of contests that we lack with our current group. Maybe dusty Martin like (I’m not calling him that level of player, but he has a similar ability in contests to get the ball out explosively in my limited viewings).

I really like wilmot but he’s not the player for us. Kinda like a vlastuin type. He will make a team very happy.

Bazzo around pick 30? Would trade back and nab him there. I’m not certain he’s a sure thing to make it, but he’s 195cm, long reach, reasonably athletic, a very good kick and moves very well especially under the ball where he has good 360 degree movement. He’s at least a prospect who if he comes good can be a guy you build your backline around. I think he has some similarities to weitering.

I’m really annoyed I didn’t get to see much of Chesser Sam butler and Zac Taylor. I’m not sold on chesser for us on the small amount I saw. Zac and butler intrigue me and I really wished I saw more of them. The kind of players I would be keener to trade back for rather than with our current pick.

I’m not keen at all on roberts. In fact I really really don’t want us to draft him. I think there’s too much risk with his lack of explosive pace. It’s far too common for players like that to fail and I don’t want to risk a high pick on that. Maybe I’m wrong but I’m not risking it. I’m calling him a slider on draft day. Even if he did come good I still don’t think he’s a good fit next to wines and drew In the midfield.

Draper, there’s a lot to like but I don’t think what he is going to be at afl level is entirely settled. I think he is quite creative with ball in hand and a good kick, if he really works on his gut running power he could be quite a damaging mid. If developed in the centre, there’s a lot to like about him offensively but he’s a defensive liability who treats his opponents like they’ve got the plague imo. I don’t think he’s a great fit for us but a very good fit for adelaide. They need more creative players in that midfield.

Sonsie is very interesting. I watched him play in the nab league as a junior playing small forward and he was talked about as a future top 3 pick. Enjoyed watching his game with explosiveness, a natural game sense and creativity. I haven’t really watched him much as a mid and I think the 1 time I tried he had a bad game. Had a bad draft year and that’s usually a really bad sign when players go backwards…. But having said that there’s so so much upside, and if you’re paying pick 16 for that upside? Could well be worth the risk. I like him starting out as a small forward for us while we move rozee and butters into the midfield and would hope sonsie develops into a mid with a difference for us.

Sinn isn’t really a need for us but there’s a bit to like there. Really really covers ground well. Wouldn’t complain if we picked him.

Wanganeen- Milera has really climbed boards. I really liked that someone could take a punt on him with a mid range pick. I’m not sure I would want port to pick him with 16. There’s lots to like but not much of a need for us. Big upside tho.

I’m completely meh on Johnson. Tall mid, not quick but good in a crowd and creative. I don’t really want him. Think there’s some fear he is actually bog average and just waiting to be revealed. I could easily be wrong and wouldn’t be panicked if we did pick him, but meh.

Lol mac Andrew going top ten would be the ultimate flyer. He’s an insanely good athlete, and that’s what you would be getting. ****ing awesome if he turns into a footballer, and that’s the risk. That he’s forever just a great athlete.

JVR- no way I want to take him with pick 16. Fair bit to like about him, but I reckon he’s a good chance to reach a Brennan Cox type level. Which would be fine at the right pick, not our first.

We should be filling our rookie list with beanpole rucks, short mobile rucks and the next best tall KPF (that we can then try and turn into a defender if the forward line doesn't work out).

he’s about 194/195cm from memory but is a bit chunky through the body in a good way. And he is pretty good at using his body down back on the limited sample ive seen. He’s definitely tall enough really. I just don’t think he’s more than an average backman he drops into the hole and takes marks. Could be a solid chb for a team but don’t reckon he’s better than solid.

There’s other options for key backs. My pick so far is bazzo who I reckon is weitering-lite.

Burgs is an accumulator. Like that he can find the pill. I really like his 360 degree movement, but that’s also a curse cause he always looks 360 degrees. Really doesn’t take off and run and carry as much as he should, doesn’t always move the ball forward as far as he should.

He very much will chip the ball around. He will sidestep players, but he’s definitely not running 20m and kicking 40m. He’s fast twitch muscles and agility but not a ground covering with ball player.

Then there’s his size. He genuinely is a stick and I don’t hold hope that we could build his body up at more than a glacial pace if ever. Way too much history of soft tissue injuries in his family.

Doesn’t intercept mark either.

He’s a pretty limited player for a lot of reasons with a couple of high end tools.

In the end we will get him for peanuts and he’s a decent pickup for what we will pay. He could become a player for us, but is much more a prospect who may or may not make it than anything else. I think he could be good enough to put pressure on some spots in the team fairly early though. He hasn’t struggled when going up a level in the sanfl.

Just like SPP got so much better. Oh wait.

• Stiff-arming a 90 kilo veteran into the dirt in the preseason prior to his debut.

• 25 & 1 and a Brownlow vote in his home debut.

• 24 & 2 in just 58% game time against the premiers-elect.

• 19 & 1 with 10 tackles in just 59% gametime in his first finals appearance.

Fast-forward 4 years and he can’t get a game in a midfield that didn’t turn up in a Prelim, and is now considered to be nowhere near deep enough, as it’s universally agreed that Rozee, Butters and Duursma will definitely fulfil their potential.

Chef’s kiss.

Horne Francis says he has spoken to 11 clubs but North haven't spoken to him yet.

That's wierd.
Apparently North want to come over and meet the parents and do the full sales pitch and have been waiting for Covid to settle down so they can come over.

They will have to do a zoom meeting before the draft. North Officials won't be getting an exemption before then.

We need to hire a draft tampering manager. The role of the draft tampering manager will be to identify the best 15 and 16 year olds in sa and secretly pay them not to play until the draft where we draft them late and say we can’t believe they slid so far. There’s so many options, fake injuries play basketball. We should be hiding kids right now.

Like WCE and Geelong.

Actually half of the bloody Melbourne clubs.
