Yeh I do think they would be laughing about it now, 12 months on, having a beer and BBQ at each others house (once that's allowed). At the time of course they were disappointed, but mates don't hold sh*t against each other forever. Pendles even spoke about Steele when giving out a jumper to a first year player this year.

You didn't mention it as a reason to trade him, but it was brought up by others when discussing the validity. Last year was horrible, most of all because the club slandered a legend, and I'm surprised fans are so ready to do it to Sidey.
I reckon Henry is a ripper and would not want to lose him. But if it came down to a pick between him and Daicos, I know where my money would be. So, if the sh*t hits the fan, Henry to Geelong (they want him) for Kreuger and a 2nd (future even) may do the trick.

Playing devils advocate here (I’m not convinced that’s the case though) do you think that’s a good thing given where we’re currently at? Were/ are you laughing?

Despite my earlier tongue in cheek stuff I’m not laughing then or now and I think as a club we need to get better at calling that behaviour out for what it is, not up to the standard we expect of any of our guys let alone our leaders.

Personally I’m not surprised by the suggestion because his performance, despite what the B&F suggested, was a long way off the Steele we’ve grown to love over the past decade. Unfortunately at his age I’m not convinced it’s a blip on the radar which we need it to be given his salary.

That’s peak Treloar trade level failure! That deal gets done for a future 4th.

Just a thought on the draft, there is too much scope to influence the draft by picking a father son prospect just to make it harder (or spite) for the destination club to get their man. I don't think this is in the spirit of the draft. How to solve this?? Change the rules. If a club picks a father son and it is matched by the destination club, then the club who made the selection drops back one spot thus risking the player they really want. Simples!

I would not trade Henry for anything. Not even pick 1. I believe he will be one of the top 5 players of his draft.

Perhaps not if your intention is to protect future picks without going into deficit.

No it absolutely is. The suggestion of our 2022 2nd for the Cats 2021 2nd is bad enough, but moving Henry to protect a theoretical deficit is the definition of insanity. Let’s say we did what you’re suggesting and a bid comes for Daicos at 3? We’ve given our best first year player away for nothing.

The VFL and NEAFL were merged so those figures for Hammelman include performances against VFL opposition. It's not unheard of to find gems from state league clubs in the Northern states. Zorko for example. Highmore before he moved to the SANFL.
St Kilda had a few drafts recently where they didn’t have a lot of early picks and they did very well via the state leagues including Cal Wilkie who is an excellent defender
I hope we are looking at Charlie Dean from Willi

Are we expecting us to have any Early Action in this Trade Period?

You said it yourself Dave, Cats deal early. I think Krueger will be some early action. Lipinski will come later because there's a bit more friction there. I think Daics points will be a live trading situation.

If a 2nd for Kreuger and a 2021 second gets us the deal done, then let's do it. I think it's wise to allow those nasty pre-season injuries to occur first and then fill rather than have no room to move. MSD is always a help to secure fresh talent and I hope we can continue to find gems.
Sier and Cox should net us a second rounder between whether it be through points or combining what we get for them into a second rounder. Same difference for us and any club that projects an academy player or father son going around that mark.

Id be surprised if Cox and Sier gave us any pick at all. Id be surprised if we offered them a contract. At best we would get a forth rounder which is SFA points for either of them

It’s a tougher gig but it should be not insurmountable

1.The non negotiables would be

Get Daicos
Keep 2022 1st round pick

2.Only if no other option

Trade 2022 2nd

3.Likely actions
Offer 3rd and 4th futures to help get Krueger/Lipinski/2021 picks
Swap 2021 picks for multiple later picks to create extra points.

In his interview last week Wright was definite in putting a line between himself and last years decisions. Fair enough too.

Agree can’t see a likely senario where we don’t offer a contract and another team agrees to trade for them.

OK then.

Would it be possible to offload them including a pick swap?
Potebtially, I think pick swaps will get us the points. Say a future 3rd for points to get daicos. Were not that far off. Cox and Sier are both out of contract and would be junk time picks so maybe you can upgrade 10 spots with one of lucky.

Thankfully (and I’m sure you will correct me if I’m wrong), couldn’t trade Henry out anyways because of the minimal (Blumfield) two year contract rule?

We will get our stuff done; no need to panic yet. Henry literally won best 1st year player at the Copeland two nights ago. No way in hell they are trading him. We will get Daicos but it won’t be at the expense of a super young talent like Henry.
