Given our lack of draft picks, I think Naish or another DFA would be a good option.

I wonder if we are looking at splitting pick 9 for two later ones... or something like pick 9 and something for Ladhams (or different player at another club) and 16.
I’d be happy to take Naish & Lochie O’Brien for free.

Trade off Dunstan, Long & Battle for enough to get us a second 1st rounder & a number of 3rd rounders to cover Windy & Owens bids

Correct, we had Riewoldt in the twilight of his career and Tom Lee the key forward. Trading in forwards cost an arm an a leg, so we drafted the best rated one of the draft. Hindsight is a wonderful thing.
That was the year of the weird Frawley Compo. We were looking to trade pick 1 with GWS until that happened

Yeah I gather a couple of players might be on their way to other clubs. I do hope that if a couple of clubs are interested in Dunstan, they take him as an unrestricted free agent, not a delisted free agent so we may get something small back as compo (if UFA get compo).

I am unsure how I feel about Ladhams for example, with Bing a potential target and not being sure how Marshall's ruck balance will be in 2023 and onward.

Picks 4 & 7 for picks 1 & 20

Going by Emma Quayle’s book & our player ratings list, I think we’d have ended up with DeGoey & Peter Wright if I’m not mistaken 🤔

"Chip finally cooked", imagine you finally retire from your dream career as a pretty successful player and that's the headline you get haha. Ahhh that's pretty funny haha.

Its kind of wrong where it talks about Dunstan too, there are no realistic circumstances where GC would need to give up draft picks for him.

Watching the r23 freo game to kill the arvo. There's so much to like for next season it's really worth another watch.
Putting 2 and 2 together, I'm thinking the GOAT's arrival has pushed Batts to defense and cost Clav his spot. Otherwise l can't make real sense of it, but it seems a reasonable scenario.

Wouldn't trade Coff. Stupid suggestion TBH

Batts and Long just nudging 60 games so another year is probably justified unless it nets a top 20 pick in one way or another.

Stavro was talking about it last year. Multiple times.

From gary Lyon on SEN 1 year ago

Garry Lyon read out the latest trade news from his ‘8:30am’ insider on SEN Breakfast this morning.

The report suggested St Kilda and Adelaide struck an agreement as part of Brad Crouch’s decision to join the Saints in free agency.

That deal will see the Crows take on a pair of Saints players to give salary cap relief and allow St Kilda to pay Crouch enough to grant Adelaide top-bracket compensation.

“St Kilda and the Crows got together for a deal RE: Brad Crouch to ensure Adelaide gets compensation pick number two,” Lyon read on SEN Breakfast.

The thought is the money was not high enough to give him the compensation.

“Initially the Crouch money fell under the compensation to make it happen, so the Saints bumped up his wage to get the average over $700,000, originally $550,000, which wasn’t enough.

“In turn, the Crows will take both Jimmy Webster and Luke Dunstan in exchange for a set of steak knife, late draft choices.

“The Crows are taking them off St Kilda’s salary cap, hence the upgrade for Crouch and pick two.”

Webster, 27, did not play a game for the Saints in 2020, while Dunstan played one before a season-ending pectoral injury.

I both love & hate that game.

Pure example of what we can do when there’s no pressure on us & no expectation.

If we fix our mental fragility, we’ll be an excellent side, but that’s far easier said than done

We will end up with nothing for Luke and Long and Battle are barely best 22 with a full list , Long 3 round and battle second round picks are not going to get you a first round pick .
You just cant put 3 average players in a bag and expect to get a first rounder back

Iirc the trade became kaput once Melbourne got awarded the compo. They were more interested in picked Brayshaw over McCartin. GWS wanted truck

Coupled with our injuries and player issues this is the biggest conundrum. Player mental collapse was visible and the coaches seemed to be unable to arrest this.
I’m sure there were many reasons for it and perhaps looking back isn’t the better way of approaching resolving the problems.
Leadership was to me the biggest concern. I think that’s part of the animosity towards guys like Seb. They just never stood up.

It doesn’t work like that. Long & Battle are contracted & we’re content for both of them to stay, we are not forcing them out. So, if a teams want them, we will work a deal that favours us. It’s a sellers market

If a team wants Battle, I’d say they’re looking for a hit-up type forward to push up to the wings etc or as a 3rd tall defender. We have a surplus of those so his value to us is less than what his value is to another team that needs that type of player.

Any deal for those 2 will be in our favour

I see where you're coming from but there's no way I can see us turning those players into a first rounder. We'd be lucky to turn them into a second rounder.

That’s probably true LD but you just don’t know how our players are perceived by other clubs. Would have thought there was little interest in Long but that appears to be not correct.

I tell you what the subi senior coach is interesting. He's not an ex player. Only umpired. Took the colts to their first flag in a couple of decades. Then has developed those kids into good senior players.

Reason why I bring it up on here...

He seems to have taken a new philosophy to how he utilises players. He doesn't really use them in set positions or roles. He cycles them through pretty much every line. For example Mayo went to CHB for a portion. You have guys on the HBF running through the center.

It seems to have this strong philosophy of using literally everyone across all lines.

Tbh I think it works. They just seem to find sparks from unlikely positional changes. Players seem to really round their game out development wise.

I guess it similar to how ratten had used battle.

He is very strong on mids not floating back behind the play though for cheapies. Guys like seb ross and Dunstan would not last long there.
Luke B took his coaching from st Bedes to the dogs and they won a flag with the handball game. U never know could be a change that might work, you would need to build a unique list but could be revolutionary

You gotta have more faith in Gags than that 👍🏼

2 years ago - Pick 6, Bruce & Acres (and a 2020 2nd & 3rd rounder) became Hill, Ryder, Howard, Jones & Butler, and still managed to secure Byrnes & Connolly in the draft

Gags has got tricks up his sleeve

I well remember all this chatter last year but at the end of the day, it was clear that no-one who understands the AFL draft rules (or has some common sense) had anything to do with such an arrangement. It was clearly draft tampering and the AFL would have called it.

So while it was reported in the mainstream media, I'm pretty comfortable to call it BS. I did back then.

Surprisingly enough, nothing came of it.

I love Gags. If he can get us another first rounder using Long and/or Battle it's statue time.

I'm with you on that Rors. Gags is a magician, and will pull a rabbit out of his hat - I wouldn't be surprised if that rabbit is a late first round or a second round pick. If that magic trick involves Long and/or Battle, then so be it. Don't get me wrong, I love both those guys and think they've still got plenty of upside, but you've got to give up something to get something back.

Isn’t this one of the best stories of our year. A guy we all thought would be delisted without playing another game and he turns it around and shows he absolutely deserves his place.

Yes , but I don't know about the "we all" part. Quite a few have us still had faith. The key I think, is dmac being played in a position that suits his strengths. Making quick decisions under pressure on the last line just wasn't him.
