North Melbourne’s initial offer for Darcy Macpherson is unlikely to be enough to pry him out of Gold Coast.

The Kangaroos are interested in the 23-year-old and have put forward a two-year deal, but Macpherson, who is contracted for 2022 at the Suns, has told the club he’d prefer to stay.

The lure of an extra season is not enough by itself to convince Macpherson to change his mind, nor is the financial component of North’s proposal.

Sources believe MacPherson is still a strong chance to stay unless the Roos re-evaluate how much they are willing to pay.

Gold Coast would send Pick 19 and Macpherson to Arden Street and get some late draft selections back in return.

Armed with Pick 19 and Pick 20, Richmond hope one of those selections would then go to Punt Road for Callum Coleman-Jones.

The Tigers and Roos remain a long way apart in their negotiations for the key forward, with sources confirming Richmond are agitated at North’s tactics of luring a player on a long-term deal on good money but refusing to part with Pick 20.

The Tigers can go **** themselves. They have let the player go out of contract and are offering less tenure and money than North. An offer of pick 38 I'd say was a gesture of goodwill. It seems the Tigers are the ones trying to play this out through their friendly media contacts which are reflective of the fact they have zero leverage. Brady would be thinking we are under no pressure to get this done and if it strings out to the last day of the trade period then all the pressure is on the Tigers.

We lost Greenwood, a 25 yo midfielder who had just come 2nd in our B&F, to Collingwood for 25 which was well unders. We lost Ben Brown, who had kicked 60+ goals three years in a row, for unders. Our weak bargaining position was because they were out of contract and had nominated a club: We would have got less had there been a PSD threat.

In neither case did we have any issue with the actions of the other clubs involved. They were just doing the right thing by their clubs: targeting and luring talent they needed. That's what clubs do. That's what Richmond has done. Are you apologising for Lynch, Nankervis, Prestia?

again there are other parts to this deal.

Yeah i kind of reckon there are not that many talls in the top 10 next year. Souup would have a pretty good idea though.
