At last a decent response .. go the same route as we got Marshall. Do the research and look to the rookie draft. Amazing how many quality players have come out of that draft over the years.
How is picking up a player we rate that has shown terrific form at VFL level any different to picking up a player we rate that has shown form at state level via the rookie draft?

What if we believe Xerri at 22 is a better option then the young rucks in the state league?

It's just as amazing how many players leave clubs for opportunities and end up having very good careers.

It is disingenuous to make comparisons like that. The same comparison can be made for all the ruckmen who did not make it in the AFL, Lewis Pierce for example.
And we gave him 5 years I think.

How many game would Xerri play next year if we don't have injuries?

3 or 4 maybe? Ryder will need to be rested, Marshall can't ruck for 22 games straight.

Break glass only

I think he's more a longer term project at that age. We had old Paddy and Punter, young in Heath, Marshall in the mid career range but if we don't get another project ruck slightly more advanced we will be constantly finding fill in options. This gives us a spread of age and experience.

Coleman-Jones is a Marshall type with some real upside, he was rated as potential first round pick and partially developed. I can see why Xerri is getting the arse.
Ruckmen are a funny position because you can only have one or two on the field and they generally take a long time to develop. Ditching a decent young one seems very strange.

I suspect that North will want a fair bit for Xerri, probably a second round pick, a third at the least. If he does want to come to us it could drag out until late and maybe not get done. For one, surely they wouldn't trade him out without first securing Coleman-Jones.

Anyway I stand by my statement I think it's weird for them to be getting rid of him if it happens.

Dunstan has a choice between Essendon and Freo, he’d like to play at Essendon as he wants to stay in Melbourne, but sees more playing time at Freo and really close mate Blake is there.. Not sure what kind of Trade will be involved if any..
Ahhh Jonny numbers aka flamingo aka anything else is back again

OMG ... where does this 'terrific form' myth come from? One impressive game against a team that lies at twentieth place on the VFL ladder. It is equally true that players change clubs and do nothing at their next club.

Can't see how they could possibly ask for a 2nd rounder when they look likely to get CCJ for a 3rd rounder after he signed a 4 year deal and has obviously been told he'll be playing seniors.

Why don't you just ignore him, the pile on that happens to anyone that doesn't drink the Kool-aid is embarrassing. He's a frustrated fan venting.
Why are you so upset with other not adhering to what they termed hysterical opinions? Are they supposed to agree with every single thing posted here?

Personally I think it was silly to use Melbourne as an example since they picked up Daw.
Everyone complained about Hunter. Everyone complained sbout McKernan We have Paddy for a year, Marshall getting to his sweet spot and a developing ruck in Heath.
We pick up insurance in a young ruck and we are told basically the recruiting team should be sacked.
So most people who know a bit about our list object, and we now get accusations of a pile on.
Thought you could have your own opinion but also thought it could be challenged.
Obviously you can only be negative all the time according to some.
A bit sad really.

The had Draper right so I'm just going to hope that this is a master stroke where they've pulled something out of their arse like Sharman.

The histrionic will inherit the earth. It's in the bible. We are god's people.

6 VFL games

2 named best on for North

1 named 2nd best best on for North

I'd call that pretty good.

Yes it's true some leave clubs but don't make it, but if that's your argument for every player moving clubs because they can't get a game, then we wouldn't have some of our better recruits.

Using the same argument I could say there are plenty of players taken from the rookie draft that never play a game...

They’re even struggling to find room for casboult or mason Cox.. so we would have to pay battles wage in this scenario for 1 season which I would personally be alright with given it is a generous pick swap which doesn’t dilute our hand next year.

Would you pay 200-300k (Battles salary) of the TPP for pick 27 (what Battle is valued at in that trade scenario)? Probably not every year but this year I would especially when we end up with 14 and 18

That would be a great outcome. lets hope this happens

So we don't try Xerri - who cant be any worse than our current back-up options - because some players who get traded dont go on to be any good?

The best case scenario is we bring this guy in and he never plays a game. But we need someone like him just in case. We saw this year that we needed to try someone else in the back up position. This is better than rolling into next season with the same thing that failed this year.

If it's not Xerri, it is an equally underwhelming, unknown and cheap tall person because that's all you are going to get to come sit behind two ruckman the quality of Ryder and Marshall

Are you suggesting we take a KP at #11 just so he can be back up behind Roma & Paddy?

Correct me if I'm wrong but I reckon we might have taken our 'decade type' ruckman during the mid season draft. Just need another big body to play while he's developing.
Let's see what happens with this Xerri situation. The reality is that North have gone after Coleman-Jones and in doing so they seem to be forcing Xerri out. I think that's a really strange move by North especially considering that Coleman-Jones will cost a bit and Goldstein isn't getting any younger, and Coleman-Jones has mainly shown something as a forward not a ruck.

This might be a good opportunity to get a decent young ruckman for next to nothing. 21 is so young for a ruck. We also have Heath who we drafted who is 18. I think getting in Xerri would give us a good age mix in our ruck division.
Definitely not suggesting we take a ruck at 11. Am still hoping that Heath in the MSD could be our decade type. Fair point about just support for him. Xerri takes Mckernan’s spot and in the VFL allows us to still play 2 rucks without compromising the structure. Starting to come around to the idea. Just hope he doesn’t cost too much as I’ve still got my hope that this will be a very strong and defining year for us in the draft
