I actually think WA will be worse next year in that the rest of the country will open up but they'll start to get outbreaks and lockdowns. Just my 2 cents.
Why though? WA have proven to be better at dealing with outbreaks so far, and the vaccination rates aren't much lower currently.

50.1% fully vaxed vs 55.6% in Vic. If I were a player I'd be betting on WA being less likely to get overwhelmed by outbreaks

I'm disappointed at the overall lack of melting given the possible English departure. However given the way the AFL landscape has been trending in recent years, I guess we've all become more pragmatic, and possibly immune, to the idea of losing, if not a top liner, at least one seen as a key player movind forward. Coupled with the travails all have endured to varying degrees over past 18 months, I for one, am relatively reconciled with what happened on 25th September, and barring any other surprise rumours, if English leaves, well life goes on, doesn't it? Hopefully we just get to see some damn live footy next season, and support whoever actually runs out in RWB.

Hope you're all safe and well, for some reason I'm feeling a bit down today, and posting on here at times is almost therapeutic. So far, today is one of those days.

Go Dogs. :bulldogs:

Hope you feel a bit less down soon.

I'm not melting because while he's shown good signs up forward, imo he's unlikely to be a top tier ruck. Despite years of exposure to it he still doesn't show enough physicality and nous to be trusted in there in big games. He might be a late developer like a lot of talls, I get that, but if Bruce wasn't out for most of next year and we were trading in a first ruck his value is as a third tall/chop out ruck - which is obviously valuable but maybe not completely critical.

I don't know what Freo or WC would put on the table for him that we could possibly want - a decent KPD? High picks aren't much use to us this year as others have said, and future picks are an unknown currency (Freo and WC could have a finishing position range of what, 5-14 next year?).

He's 24, so it's a risk given the time we've put in to developing him and everything could click for him, but if we don't get a ruck in the trade period and he ends up rucking most of next year with Martin cooked and Sweet still not being played my guess is we'll be tearing out hair out at centre bounces like we have been most of the latter part of this season. He had his moments in September but I can't recall (and maybe I'm wrong) him playing a critical role in any of those games.

But I know I'm more down on him than most, so that might not be the prevailing attitude on here if a trade does eventuate.

Normally I listen to every minute of Trade Week.

I haven't been able to bring myself to turn it on once this year.

Losing grand finals fu** you up. Hoping come Rd 1 I'm ready to go again.

Here's what's going through my head though - are we over capitalised on our midfield? Could our biggest strength become a weakness because we can't afford to plug other holes in our list?

Same. I’ve not gone anywhere near Trade Radio this year. If I have to listen to “Doug the tradie” I’ll go mental!

Has the scorched earth, year zero coaching and trade strategy that Hawthorn seem to be employing ever actually worked in an AFL context?

Carlton are the club that immediately come to mind who tried it and they are still struggling to get out from under this tragic part of their history.

I have never seen it work, generally it sets the club back years and makes them even less competitive in the short term.

Switched it on yesterday heard some woman talking about making football gooder and switched off

That’s head in the sand stuff. They haven’t even had an outbreak. A couple of cases with a 3 day lockdown isn’t considered an outbreak. Either they open their borders to the rest of the country in 3-6 months, decide to live with Covid and cop massive outbreaks like everyone will, or they continue to stay locked off from the rest of the country.

WA health system is also already cooked with zero Covid in the state.

Isn't there a covid thread for this stuff?

Not worried about English being traded, he was to nominate them I know Power would play hardball and English doesn't sound disgruntled.

I'd be asking for Hayden Young in any trade, which I'd assume they'd reject.

What does Hayden Young do to address our weaknesses though? If English leaves, we have to be getting a ruck back at absolute minimum. If Lobb goes to GWS, maybe we can weave in Flynn to come to us along with picks.

No offer we get from any club for Tim will elevate our chance for a flag next year. Good second rucks that are actually good forwards are very very hard to find.

Tim is one of the players we can expect internal development from.

This time last year we would expected change for English to be swapped for Darcy.

I’d be filthy if we traded him.

To save me scanning 50 pages back, can someone fill me in on the latest with English?

Is he open to trade back to Perth?
1+1=3. Some mentioned Feo could offer5 year deal. . Nothing to see.
i jestinglyvsaud meek coming in a long term contract a couple of days back when people stressing over us not getting in a ruck.
assumed it was ignored as most would have seen Meek play.

He wouldn't address a weakness but he would still make us better, I think he will be the best half backer/interceptor within a few years.

I rate English as much as anyone and don't want to lose him, so I'd only trade if we get elite talent back.

In fairness, English is a contracted player who is reportedly happy at the club who has no offer in front of him, but the media think another club could potentially make him an offer pending other trades possibly occuring

Not really an overly meltworthy level of concern

I think with Bruce being out for most of next year we will really need English to play up forward with Naughton. Hopefully Sweet and Martin can play enough serviceable games between the two of them.
I think that echoes the sentiments of many of us, but I'm not convinced between Martin and Sweet we'll get a genuine no 1 ruck prospect every week.
Even adding a bog-average ruck to our list would make us a better team most weeks.

And yet right now I'd be offering Freo English + picks just to get Darcy in the door. We have enough to work with in the forward line, ruck department, not so much.

Hang on, don't we already have enough points to get Darcy anyway?
He might be referring to Sean Darcy, who would be about as untouchable for Freo as Naughton is for us.
