oh please

every team in the country passed on him as a 17yr old
He wouldn't be the first player missed. Don't forget, we're talking 20 years ago when there was far less awareness among Vic clubs of our school boys. Anyway, it's not a matter of debate, he was. You do you 😘

Fair comment, but inaccurate. He was always regarded as their best product, from the moment he pulled on a first 18 guernsey.

The only reason Kenny got taken ahead of him as a 17 yr old was because of his exposed SANFL senior form.
Well the decision probably only cost us premierships in '05-06,'09 and '12.

why does

Tigers: “here north this is what we have to offer”

North: “no thanks”

all of a sudden mean pick 1 is “up for grabs”..

fu** me crew around go to some amazing lengths to turn reports in the media into something that really isn't there..
Confirming I'm not in a "crew" or affiliated in anyway that can be seen by law as cohorting.

Calm down buddy it's happening.. and when it does you'll be first one in line for a badge.

Serous question, is this kid the best SA draft talent ever ? , I’ve never seen anything quite like what been offered, your offer was an outstanding one for NM. Who does he play like current gen players , Dangerfield ?
I’ve watched him for nearly every game he played this year. He’s good no doubt, - entirely different to Dangerfield- but no way I’d be happy giving up what the Crows reportedly offered.

North should have taken the offer... every year.. the number 1 draft picks are hyped but rarely do they turn into a Dustin Martin or Andrew mcloed.

Would we pay 2 top 5 draft picks for luko? Nope, no way.

That deal is a bad deal imho, putting all your eggs into the Horne basket is just way too much risk. He could have reached his cieling already aka tambling, he could do his knee, he might have some personal issues which is detrimental to his development... etc etc

Just too much risk.

Premierships are built on nailing your draft picks, and afl concessions.
I like what you have said, especially the risk with one player not developing further or getting a serious injury. It is worth noting though that when a swap for the number 1 pick did happen, Luke Hodge was taken. That was a good investment for the Hawks.

Hawks also got draft concessions and absolutely nailed their draft picks.

Would be nice to have another free top draft pick right now lol

We didn't even ask, which is a mistake.

We weren't going to get it this year but asking this year gives us a better chance of getting it next year if we are bottom 4 again.

Regarding the North should interview or not I am in the ''should touch base'' early side

I look at it from JHFs point of view - here I am number 1 rated kid and the bottom side - and they were bottom all year - hasnt being in touch to introduce the people who will help me fit into the club - I wonder wat I am getting myself into

North were here in Adelaide Aug 22 - no excuse to not make an appointment - as that was also the weekend they were confirmed bottom and pick 1
strange that they wouldn't have interviewed him as that's when clubs would get a sense to a kids attitude to living interstate, clearly care less for that and what will be will be

Nah - apparently South were playing Port at Alberton around that time and North didn't have access to an armored vehicle and police escort to get in and out of the greater port area so decided to leave it at the time

I get that we’d like JHF but I don’t get the whole “should have lost to Hawthorn” idea

Yes we need elite talent but we also need an elite culture and system and players learning to play to their limits. I’m not sure finishing bottom again helps with that.

It’s the basis of the whole “A champion team beats a team of champions” idea

I could be wrong, just my 2c

I don't get giving up 3 firsts for him? Absolutely ridiculous.

I'm confident in saying he won't even be the best player in his draft year, purely based on the odds.

Too ridiculous. Reckon Adl are playing some serious 4D chess here.
They have been making the point all morning on TR that while its 3 1sts - they expect the difference between the melbourne 1st next year and the north 2nd we wanted back may only be a handful of positions so we would not have lost out too much there so its would be like 2 high 1sts for pick 1. If the North 2nd was not part of the deal its a straight 3 x 1sts for pick 1

It would be if it was 3 firsts, we get one back, so its 2 firsts and then one of them was Melbourne's 1st and swapped for Norths second, so it was a slide back of a few picks. That pick is now gone so that deal wont happen.

Well, he does look very very good. If you were ever going to push the chips in, he's not a bad option ... definitely at least an A-K.

Of course, he isn't ranked as highly as Nick Daicos who Collingwood are guaranteed at any pick.

Actually, we'd be giving up two firsts for him - we would have needed to use one first for a player in any case so it's the other two picks we're burning.

As for whether he's worth it, I leave to Hamish & co to decide whether he just might be the one to defy the odds.

snap!

The day the recruitment team tells the coaching team who to play and whether to win or not is the last day the recruitment team works for the club.
