Key Off-Season Dates
This is a comprehensive list including dates for draft combines, list lodgements, delisted free agency windows and return to train dates. I had to collate these from three different club websites because the AFL is lazy af and doesn't have it on their website, so thought it might be helpful to share:

FAQs & Resources Thread

It has an index at the top with threadmarks so it's easy to find what you're looking for – or easier than scrolling through 250 pages of AFL Rules, Regulations and CBA pdfs anyway.

These sorts of questions are all answered along with a bunch of other resources made by posters from across BigFooty (feel free to add to it!):

He either wants to go to Melbourne (the city) for personal/family reasons or just Essendon for what? money?

If it’s to be close to his cousin, why not ask for a trade to St Kilda? that’s where his cousin is.

This has the stink of a manager pouring poison into his ear.
I think the issue was that we wanted to see what shape he came back in for pre-season before extending, that scared him, and wanted to lock up a contract soon as possible.

Yep, clearly if he wanted simply to be in Victoria, his manager would have had the clubs lined up with their offers to him AND the club, and from day 1 of trade worked from top to bottom.

Basically, s**t or get off the nest & next one up.

What a sad situation Hawks willing to pay full freight for two players to play for us yet they say no thanks. We must be on the nose as a club.

Makes it hard players leaving and no free agents will join us. The only players that stay are offered 5-10 year contracts on inflated dollars.
The issues include the non-playing elements ($) that players can get in AFL states, especially Victoria. Then for older, married with kids players, family/school considerations. But, if players want to move for more money or opportunity they'll put up with that stuff in a flash. So, yes, it does tell of a reluctance to come to us. However, it's not necessarily that GWS is on the nose. The salary cap is tight, so they won't get overs, the cost of living is higher here than elsewhere etc. (That's where Vic/SA/WA clubs bleating about COLA being unfair are taking the piss because it simply helps them to be more competitive in contracts than Swans or GWS.)

You'd think that convincing guys to move up here is a several month long exercise, doesn't help when a manager creates a hole in your list with four days to go in trade period and you start scrambling for options

Exactly.

Again, a miscalculation from Bobby, his manager & Dodoro.

The problem is that they're so arrogant and try to win everything rather than look for a win-win situation.

But back to the Hawks, one thing that our requests revealed is that Hawks didn't really talk to their players and get an understanding of what message should be sent out. If that was a ''limited firesale'' (i.e. players willing to be traded only to clubs in Victoria) then that needed to be clearly stated up front. Of course, it should not stop us simply asking the question - that's fair enough.

100% agree, you have to put yourself in the hunt, rather do that and figure out the lay of the land than sit back and do nothing

Makes things very interesting, would call him on his bluff and see if he's serious about sitting out

Charlie Cameron deal probably needs to be the baseline for this one. If I were you guys I'd hold him unless Essendon offer a future 1st.

Contracted former pick 24 who has only increased in value and clearly some shady stuff has gone with him requesting Essendon. Completely up to them to pay overs if they want him.

He said something along the lines of he's been wanting to go to Melbourne for a while, he tried to organise a trade 18 months ago to Hawthorn

This story is all over the place
He was trying to get an extension a month ago. 3 year deal.
But the Giants supposedly wanted to see what he would come back from Xmas like fitness wise.
Next thing you know bombers have a 4 year deal and he has always wanted out of Sydney 🤷‍♂️
