Radio 'You cannot be serious' podcast with Sam Newman, Don Scott and Rod Law

Life's too short to listen to 20 minutes of Sam Newman's "I'm not an anti-vaxxer but here are series of anti-vaxx talking points" every week. Unless they can have someone to offer a contrary opinion, the show is garbage.

i think sams treading carefully knowing the connotations of being labelled or being an anti vaxxer are. usually sam is very forthright in his stance on things, whereas on the vaccination he's in between i feel.

The only highlight this week was Don complaining about Rex running over his agapanthus.

hahahahaha lol

Yet life is long enough for you to post this dribble on a sports forum? The delicate flowers ITT are something else, just don't listen to the show if you don't like it, there's plenty of paint-the-dots podcasts and radio broadcasts that will be more up your alley.

To be fair to Sam re vaccination he said he wants Pfizer hence why he hasn’t been jabbed before.

That’s rubbish they had dr John daffy on who explained AstraZeneca was equally as good a vaccine as Pfizer, and that still doesn’t account for all the anti vaccine propaganda s**t he bangs on about

Aren’t 70 somethings now eligible for Pfizer? Has he got the jab?

His argument that the Pfizer CEO didn’t get the jab straight away and therefore must be an issue with the vaccine is completely illogical and shows a complete and utter lack of understanding in simple constructs

I’m listening less and less and when I do I’m fast forwarding through most of the rubbish.

Sam loves to quote the “overseas news” or say “a lot of people are saying” when in reality he is rarely quoting a reliable source or factually correct information and he can rarely specifically disclose where he got it from. When he says a lot of people are saying he actually means a very very small number of people but that’s what I want to hear so I’m amplifying it.

The idea that their are different opinions on things and it depends where you get your news is true to some extent but facts are facts and Sam can’t seem to get his head around this or doesn’t want to. Got to love this new world of “Alternative Facts” we live in, unfortunately the main stream media has itself to blame to an extent for people losing trust in it.

yes noted and accepted. all im saying is that before Pfizer was open to him, that was his reason/excuse why he couldnt get the jab.

i also acknowledge that he does offer an anti vax view, while at the same time saying hes not anti vax (to be careful not to be categorised as one of them).

as ive asked a few times in this thread, do posters reckon sam will get vaxxed? Im not so sure.

yes.

It was interesting and refreshing to hear Sam support the NBA on their non mandatory stance on vax. The same organisation that permitted BLM stuff, which sam did not agree with. maybe sam is softening.

The grooming/deVana story got a few mins of discussion, which surrounded their concern about girls/women being able to play without being groomed. I dont feel they are homophobic, in fact fairly certain they arent. at the same time im not 100% sure their issue/concern is/are any impediments to women being able to play sport. Its a sticky subject.

agree that it depends where you get your news from, that is spot on.

i do still listen but not with the same focussed intent. I like when they talk sport and hang s**t on each other. politics, dont have to like it hence thats why there's a forward 15 button or scroll through. Sams point about obama having a party with no masks etc was interesting. But struck me....that isnt that what sam wants? Freedoms again to party and be free of masks (i think we all want that). So in a way he should be applauding obama for that event

It's got stale, I think by the end of the year it might be time to pull up stumps.

But I really hope they can get Simon O'Donnell on again before it's all over.

It's been a great ride regardless and I bet no one ever thought how poplular it would get seeing no one likes Sam apparently.

If it's to continue on next year they need to find a recently retired footballer who has chemistry with them.

Otherwise I think it's all over.

was it a health minister or someone in a nsw court who was asked that? I vaguely remember

The good thing is that it will be a personal decision when it's finished - when they get bored with it, or another co-host can't be found.

It's not commercialised, so they aren't beholden to a network or dependent on a sponsor - Sam pays for it out of his pocket. While they obviously take an interest in the download data, if the audience drops by 50% do you think that will impact on their decision to continue? Or signal some other change is needed?

The three-part format could be simplified. The sport discussion is horrible - Don tries his best but Sam isn't engaged unless it is golf or a bit of F1. Maybe it could all be covered in one tighter podcast with a bit of structure: News - Sport - Entertainment - Weather (!). The interviews are the highlight (well, apart from Nick Stevens) and when there isn't one, it is a flat week.

A much a I love Sam hard to disagree! That’s why rod need to be speaking every week to have a different point of view. Don just goes along with what ever he is saying.

Here's the article from today's Herald-Sun...

Sheahan Ink: The feud that’s split Sam Newman’s podcast team

A behind-the-scenes disagreement has sparked a walk-off and prompted Sydney radio host Ben Fordham to get involved.

Sam Newman’s You Cannot Be Serious podcast is without a major cog as its executive producer Rod Law decided to walk away over editorial differences.
Law was the popular podcast’s rudder helping steer the ship around legal waters and providing its high profile hosts with information.

But he told Newman of his decision to step away the week Carlton player Nick Stevens’ appeared on the show 12 days ago.

Sydney’s breakfast radio king Ben Fordham decided to make a few calls to try and act as mediator between Law, Newman and Don Scott.

“I’ll be very open about it and I said to Sam and to Don I think Rod brings a unique element to it,” Fordham said.

“He pulls them into line from time to time and stirs a lot of trouble between the two of them.

“But, he is also across things and accesses information that maybe they don’t.

“So sometimes they’ll be heading down a certain path and Rod will say, ‘Hang on a minute, that’s not entirely true’ or ‘There is another side to that’.

“And that’s what I love listening to.

“I don’t like listening to a one-sided conversation, I like it when there is a bit of pushback.

“I think he provides some pushback on the podcast.

“Even though I’ve got no involvement in the podcast, I just wanted to know what was going on. That’s all.

“That’s the only reason I picked up the phone and made a few phone calls and sent a few text messages.

“I’ve communicated with all three of them either on the phone or in text asking what’s going on.

“I can guarantee you none of them sought any help from me getting involved.”

Fordham is the host of Sydney’s 2GB breakfast program and is an unabashed fan of the You Cannot Be Serious podcast.

“My wife always wonders what I’m listening to when I’m giggling away.

“I can’t help what I find entertaining and interesting but I’m certainly a regular listener.

“I think it’s really unique. I don’t agree with everything everyone says, that’s part of the reason I like the podcast because there is so many different views.

“I love listening to things where you feel like you can’t press stop.

“If you are listing to something and you park the car at home and you can’t get out because you want to keep on listening.

“And I tell Sam, ‘There’s something really unique about this.’

“Listening is like being on a rollercoaster with no tracks, you just don’t know what’s going to go on or what’s going to happen next.

“I think there’s been some incredible conversations on there.

“There’s some really riveting debates, then there’s some other moments which is utter madness, where you think, ‘What the hell are they talking about’?”

Fordham said he would happily join the You Cannot Be Serious on-air team should a position be made available in the future.

But with a wife and two kids and a radio show in another state, it may just prove out of reach even for the Mr Everywhere Fordham.

I agree with everything Fordham said in the article.
Me too. Rod was good for the podcast, there were times he probably said too much but trying to keep Sam in some sort of order would be a pretty taxing job.

Or maybe he got sick of hearing about ICOOK foods every week.

Haven't missed Rod one bit. So relieved he is off the podcast. I was close to not listening anymore. Podcast is so much better now.
