Giving up 15 would hurt, but it would have to mean the club seriously rates the player they are trading up to get.
WA kids have exposed form, vic kids very little. The suggestion was that Freo will choose WA kids. I don’t agree, I think it will be best available. As it may turnout the best kids at their picks appear to be WA. Erasmus and Amiss.Wouldn't say they wouldn't.
Whats the difference between WA & Vic kids?
tbf with the Smith one we were a long way off with our selection to make it happen outside of trading our future first. We liked Salem a few years ago but would settle for Freeman or Lennon. Next year we wanted Duggan but settled for Ellis. Few years ago we identified Bailey Smith as potentially the best player in the draft but didn’t want to pay the price to trade up.
I think our lack of first round success is a result of us taking a passive best available approach in the first round. Now the option is there to trade up or even on the day we should take it.
Far better we try to get our first choice rather than keep going along burning first rounders like we have been.

Fair enough, but I still stopped reading when I saw you comparing points. It’s an arbitrary system assigned by the AFL, and probably as full proof as their FA compo calculations. It has zero impact on the value of the trade you were comparing.Never said draft points.![]()
The HeraldSun is wrong (no surprise there).29 - We somehow lost pick 29 here - not sure if they made a mistake or traded it too?
I’m of the same view here to a degree. Callaghan by all reports has the traits to be a generational talent, the type that can win you premierships. As is Horne Francis who we had a crack at. These are the types you trade up and happily give away the late first round pick. I’m not trading up for an accumulator tho.We liked Salem a few years ago but would settle for Freeman or Lennon. Yes, they did make a mistake but that's not quite it - they have West Coast with pick #29 - the Saints are just matching a NGA bid in this phantom draft. The HeraldSun is wrong (no surprise there).
We have pick 29 not St Kilda. We traded last year for the Saints' 'future' 2021 second rounder.
Ward will not be available at 7.Yeah agreed that we need mids. I'd be wary of Rachele given he is more a small forward than a mid. The LAST thing we need right now is another Jack Higgins type that looks great in the u18s but at AFL level is good for about 10-15 possessions and maybe a goal. We have a dearth of players like that. We badly badly need genuine (jen-you-eye-n) midfielders, not just for the future but to re-top us off now whilst we have a bit of a window left. Definitely don't wanna see us drafting anymore Lennon types either, what a waste that was when we coulda had Cripps.
As for Goater, yeah maybe, from what I've seen he doesn't seem much different to Ross/RCD. Where possible we really need that proper mid that gets 30+ and is everywhere. At 7 (9) I worry we're just outside the bracket of getting the player we need. If we take Rachele I'll be very upset. If all the mids are gone like Callaghan, Hobbs, Ward, we may as well just go best available and get the best defender in the crop. Not to meme but we need to stock up there too and Balta can play forward down the track if our defence is well stocked, so would prefer a defender over a forward. Then we can go the ball winners in the 20-30 bracket and hopefully still get some guys with size and the ability to accumulate.
But yeah, at 7 I badly want the top midfielder echelon and if we can snare Ward I'd be stoked.
Goater is not a great kick. Callaghan has much better disposal.Yuk,I'm starting to rate Josh Goater as equal to Callahan and would be happy as hell for Johnson, Erasmus, etc at 7(9).
I agree I think that's who'll they pick. But in principal you take the best available too your needs.WA kids have exposed form, vic kids very little. The suggestion was that Freo will choose WA kids. So we trade 2 firsts (Sinn/Goater) for Hobbs who we don’t rate. Good work H/SNot yet but from memory they did this....
1. NM - JHF
2. Coll - Daicos (Matched Bid)
3. WB - Darcy (Matched Bid)
4. GWS - Callaghan
5. GCS - Josh Gibcus
6. RICH - Ben Hobbs (Live Trade - Adelaide trades pick 6 and 33 to Richmond for picks 9 and 17, plus a swap of future second-round selections.)
7. HAW - Josh Ward
8. FRE - Jye Amiss
9. ADE - Josh Sinn
10. FRE - Wanganeen-Milera
11. STK - Matthew Johnson
12. WC - Neil Erasmus
13. ESS - Josh Rachele
14. PA - Matthew Roberts
15. GWS - Mac Andrew
16. BL - Arlo Draper
17. ADE - Josh Goater
18. SYD - Tyler Sonsie
19. MEL - Campbell Chesser
20. BL - Darcy Wilmot
21. FRE - Jacob Van Rooyen
22. NM - Leek Alleer
23. HAW - Zac Taylor
24. GEE - Tom Brown
25. HAW - Sam Butler
26. CAR - Jesse Motlop
27. RICH - Jack Williams
28. RICH - Angus Sheldrick
29 - We somehow lost pick 29 here - not sure if they made a mistake or traded it too?
Turns out I have a good memory....
If this is how our draft turned out, there would be scenes in my living room. Underwhelming.
Hawthorn would be doing backflips with that haul.

How do you know we dont rate him?So we trade 2 firsts (Sinn/Goater) for Hobbs who we don’t rate. Good work H/S
Sure this wasn’t printed in the Adelaide Addy first?
tbf with the Smith one we were a long way off with our selection to make it happen outside of trading our future first.
Its all well and good to be able to make the trade but sometimes you simply dont have the currency to do so.
To be fair the club had a crack at both pick 2 and pick 3 in the first week. It was reported we were after both. While that was going on we later found out Richmond were also trying to winkle Pick 1 into the CCJ trade. So they haven't been sitting on their hands either. You can only ask the question and put forward a trade you're prepared to do. You can't make them say yes.I’m of the same view here to a degree. Callaghan by all reports has the traits to be a generational talent, the type that can win you premierships. As is Horne Francis who we had a crack at. These are the types you trade up and happily give away the late first round pick. I’m not trading up for an accumulator tho.
The only reason I used the point index was to help show how unbalanced it is.Fair enough, but I still stopped reading when I saw you comparing points. It’s an arbitrary system assigned by the AFL, and probably as full proof as their FA compo calculations. It has zero impact on the value of the trade you were comparing.

Fremantle are giving up a single first round pick and a second round pick, but gain 2 firsts and a good second round pick, while we lose 2 firsts and a second to gain 1 first and 1 second. GWS is the only one that is somewhat balanced in terms of what they give up and get back.
That's why I don't like it and I'm not sure why many on here seem to. I get it's to try and land Callaghan, but truth be told I'd much rather stick with the picks we've got and bring in 5 kids that help us address list needs for the future.
Can someone tell me what Callaghan’s inside game is like? He looks silky as in his highlights tape, but it’s mostly all outside play
Id be happy with that7. Hobbs
15. Sinn
26-28. Chesser Williams Bazzo
Inside grunt from Hobbs
Hybrid bigger bodied midfielders in Sinn & Chesser
KPP Williams & Bazzo
If you're of the opinion that Freo will take Erasmus and Amiss with their first two picks, the likelyhood is that they will take Erasmus first, knowing we are probably unlikely to take Amiss with our first but that we'd entertain taking Erasmus.Any chance Erasmus slips to us? I think Fremantle is the only danger. Hopefully they go for Amiss
