We are opening at 80% vax in SA.
WA will be opening at 90% vax.

South Australians who received their second dose of the Covid vaccine at least six months ago will be able to access Covid booster shots from the beginning of December.
But the shots will not be mandatory and, at this stage, there will be no impact on the vaccine passport and those with two doses will still be considered fully vaccinated.

The boosters were made available to all frontline health and medi-hotel workers from Friday.

Last I heard we were opening all borders to fully vaxed travellers on 23 November. That was the expected 80% vax date for SA. We are currently at 66.9% so that is another 13% in 18 days. Even if we make that target it is still well short of the 88% of the 12+ age group that NSW already has.

If WA is going to wait until they have 90% vaccinated they may not be opening up until 2022.

I reckon one of the crunch factors for Marshall is International Students. These are a big boost for the SA economy and Marshall probably does not want them flocking into NSW while SA is a closed shop.

This place dragged the federal government over the coals cause a minority played the jobkeeper scheme, but accepts that welfare will also go to those exploiting it and that that's ok, nobody's fault?

Hating on 'dole bludgers' is such a weird Australian pastime. If not working and living off a few hundred dollars a week is so fantastic then why aren't more people doing it rather than slaving away at shitty jobs they hate?

Also read an interesting article the other day re the lowly amount dole recipients are paid. In addition to the obvious Economics 101 argument about the multiplier effect of increasing the dole substantially, the article pointed out that the dole as it is (ie putting you in poverty) is a massive disincentive to entrepreneurship in Australia as there's no genuine safety net when building a business or failing at building that business. Food for thought.
It's almost impossible for the middle class to begin any sort of entrepreneurial activity

You’re comparing Harvey Norman to a single mum 😂😂.

Doesn‘t matter how much boot licking you do, they won’t share with you.

No I'm not. I'm comparing attitudes.

Do we slam the whole program because of a few bandits?

I was ok with jobkeeper despite Gerry and I'm ok with welfare despite the generationally unemployed with half a dozen kids and a new Kia Sorento + VF SS (aka six figures worth of car) in the driveway of their Commission housing.

The welfare state has been absolutely corrosive of human dignity and human potential. Its tendency is to infantalise. I will put the elderly to one side - once you have run your race I have no problem with the state helping those who have not fared well. But for the young and able it’s a poison. The typical attitude of the welfare beneficiary - dependence on the state, hatred of the state, and a general ingratitude to the community. If people are forced to struggle some may fall, but the majority will find some kernel of strength within, some guiding light that they can harness to progress and prosper. I doubt there is a crueller thing you can do to a person than to make them dependant on welfare.

If there is any good news after this afternoon's terrible news it is that South Australians will be able to book a booster shot after December 1.

A side issue...

My son has sole custody of his three children, which must say something about his ex partner. My son is keen to get the two eldest vaccinated against COVID. His former partner is an evangelical idiot who does not hold with vaccination. She actually told my 16 year old grand daughter that if she was vaccinated she would turn into a butterfly in 3 years!!! **** what an idiot. Luckily my son has full custody and my 16 year old grand daughter has not fallen for this shite and is booked in for her first COVID jab tomorrow. I hope everything goes well.

This highlights an interesting situation where kids are shared between separated parents and one parent is an anti vaxxer. Where two parents are fighting for custody you would hope that one of them refusing to allow a child to be vaccinated against COVID would hold some sway with the judge. Then again family courts are geared in a certain direction.

What about those with a disability or mental illness? What about those in remote areas where there are no jobs? Do they just need to harden up and find some inner strength?

At the margins I have no problem bravey for those truly in need or to get people through a tight spot - it’s the culture of welfare dependency that is poisonous and spreading

Is it really though? Who can get by "jobseeker" or whatever it's called these days? It's well below the poverty line. Unless someone's also dealing drugs or something on the side they won't be having a good time.
