It depends on whether we trade 36 or not. If we keep 36 and the bid comes in a favourable spot, our 1st live pick would be 48 and not 58 (converting 36, 38, 40, 46 into points to match Daicos bid).

In terms of what is likely to happen, my understanding is that at least pick 36, if not pick 36 + 38 will be traded for future picks prior to the draft.

So something that is a possibility would be:

Pick 36 + Pick 38 + future 3rd for Pick 33 + Adelaide future 2nd

First part of the deal (36 & 38 for 33) is a big loss, but we won't get to use these picks anyways. And in return of the loss in value we get a future 3rd upgraded to a future 2nd.
That is a truly awful trade for Adelaide. Why would they do this?

Cox has been re-signed - anyone know how many list spots that leaves available - does it tie up with the 6 the midweek article mentioned?

The Pies have 6 list spots free (although they have committed to taking Chugg in the Rookie Draft). They have 7 picks with points, so I'd anticipate at least one more trade before the draft to consolidate the number of picks with points down to 6.

Am (genuinely) curious as to most Pies fans thoughts on De Goey, who is OOC next season and eligible for free agency?

Salary Cap considerations aside, would you prefer it if the Pies re-signed him or let him go and presumably cash in on band 1 compo ?

Is there any kind of consensus amongst the Collingwood faithful about De Goey ?

Assuming you guys may struggle again next season and his issue with injuries (AFAIK his off field issues are done and dusted and not relevant anymore), is the temptation of possibly getting another top 5 pick in the 2022 draft worth letting JDG go ?

Can see a compelling argument either way (to re-sign De Goey or let him go as a FA)

We'll win either way, but of course I'd rather keep him than have him depart as an FA - just not for any price.

So with it looking like De Goey is Good as Gone I guess we no longer have a Salary Cap Issue as only 2 Big Stars to Re-Sign in Maynard and Moore

Like I have said many many times. It doesn’t matter what potential de Goey had or how high Moore’s ceiling is.

Because of their off-field behaviour/durability, they are both players a club should not prioritise in keeping, as their season long output will always be compromised.

And where a competitive opposition bid is offered both in terms of picks and salary, you should absolutely let them both go.

It’s too late with De Goey, but it’s not too late with Moore.

Honestly it just feels like the list management team is fielded with a bunch of people that have come through nepotism and lack any creative/modern thinking to drive our list forward.

The fact we haven’t lost any big names through FA well, the club makes it sound like a positive, but that just shows how poor their list management approach is.

It’s honestly just crazy that all of Langdon, Phillips, Cox, Stephenson, Beams were on $550k+ for us at one point.

When Langdon/Phillips received offers in the $600k range, you would’ve had to had rocks in your head to match that

It’s straight up remarkable that a club which traded out three best 22 players last year, is losing another one this year and finished second last in 2021 will at this stage go through the 2020-2022 drafts with picks 17, 19, 30, 31 and one NGA player (2020), one extremely highly rated father son player and maybe some late third rounders (2021) and no second rounder in 2022 to go with probable top 5 pick and a few third rounders from Brisbane and Hawthorn. Has early 2000s salary cap punished Carlton about it.

Then we might be Big Players in Next Years FA/Trade Period with that much Salary Cap Space

Said elsewhere that The Pies should be major major players for Ben King if he doesn't re-sign at Gold Coast, and this stage you would be likely to have the early pick(s) that would satisfy Gold Coast in a trade.

Losing De Goey could very well end up being the best thing to happen to Collingwood in a long time.

What’s the problem with Moore?

Guess the IF we get rid of Moore as well as De Goey going we might as well start a Full-Blown Rebuild as we be down the Bottom for then next few seasons

I mean isn't that what we should be aiming to do lol? Why do you make it sound like it's something we should actively avoid?

If its the developmental aspect you're worried about, do you really see someone like De Goey as a good leader either on field or off-field?

We still have plenty of experience and leadership all across the ground to help with youth development.

Biggest problem for us regarding players like King or top end FAs is that they generally get to the club they want to get to and our list issues pretty much preclude us from being a destination club for the next few seasons at least. If you were Ben King coming to Melbourne you want to be at a club finals bound.
