Injury Fremantle 2023 Injury Thread

touch wood. apart from Fyfe do we have anyone else actually out at the moment with an injury? I'm not aware of any which is really strange as a Freo supporter. touch wood
don't think you've touched enough wood there, when hamling, sturt and co have their inevitable set backs we know who to blame ;)

I wonder if he is double Jabbed with the Pfizer before he had the op? He might regret that if it might have caused an issue with his body being able to fight off infection.
Lots of people having side affects to the Covid Jabs and long term issues won't be known for years
Yep, I can't walk past a 5G tower now without wanting to buy a Microsoft product.

Sam Taylor and Michael Hurley have both struggled with infection. Is Fyfes infection different? Throwing out to our medical community.

Has anyone else heard that Fyfe’s injury is potentially career ending - heard from a 50/50 source so no idea if there’s any truth to it or not

Yes, I have heard/read several people who have no knowledge of the details of the injury/Fyfe/human anatomy declare that it could be career ending.
There's more than enough information in the public domain to say it could be career ending. Not definitely career ending, but could be. Feel free to keep your head in the sand though.

The PICC line is standard for a serious infection

My Brother did his knee a year and a half ago and had a serious infection, had to drive him to get his thing attached a couple times, he has recovered fine

It's scary at the time but I have no doubts Fyfe will be back

For every story of " my brother had an infected bone graft/joint and it was fine" someone could counter with a story of "my brother had an infected bone graft/ joint and it hasn't recovered".
Thinking at this early stage that he'll definitely be fine is as stupid as thinking he'll definitely never play again. All outcomes are possible.

Doesn't mean they're equally likely.

So far the media reports appear like typical sensationalism, not actual input from anything medical.
We'll see how it plays out.

Hate to say this but there ain't as many melts about Fyfe going down with a serious injury as i thought there would be.

Is it cause we've come accustomed to it or we play better team footy without him?

I genuinely think his career is at risk and also that this wont be the season killer a few may fear. He is a great player but has some negatives - no defensive side to his game, very poor set shot etc. I have a feeling that Will Brodie may surprise a few here.

Scans and tests have cleared Fremantle captain Nat Fyfe to end his course of intravenous antibiotics and begin the slow recovery from shoulder surgery, but the man helping him to beat an infection admits the Brownlow medallist is unlikely to be available for round one.
Fyfe outlined his battle this week, describing the plight as “pretty grim” following a second bout of shoulder surgery.
WA surgeon Peter D’Alessandro discovered an infection, Cutibacteriun, which had been laying dormant in Fyfe’s shoulder since an operation in Melbourne during July and prevented his body from healing.
He has since been treated daily by infectious disease expert Dr Clay Golledge, but investigations on Wednesday produced positive news.
“Everything is healing beautifully and everything is in the right place,” Dr Golledge told The West Australian.
“All his blood tests are good and he’s feeling really comfortable. He’s coming out of his sling and doing gentle exercises.

“Everything is progressing really well and we’re hoping to cease the intravenous antibiotics within the next few days. What we will try and do is leave him on long term antibiotics probably right throughout the whole season.
“We’ll step down from intravenous to oral in the next few days. Those oral antibiotics will be a really high dose. The plan will to be on a high dose for couple more months and look to drop down to a lower dose.
“We’re very confident we’ll be able to suppress this infection and hopefully cure it once and for all.
“I’ve been hearing all sorts of stuff on social media that it’s a resistant bug that is hard to treat and it will destroy his joint. It’s none of those things.”
Fyfe will continue to have regular scans and faces a significant challenge to re-build both his body and his fitness.

The 30-year-old hasn’t run for four months and hasn’t been allowed to exercise while receiving the intravenous treatment.
Dr Golledge described Fyfe as “the most determined and toughest guy you will find” but admitted everything needed to go right for him to be available for round one.
“He’d be at least 12 weeks away from doing significant contact stuff. It would be very ambitious that he’d be ready for round one,” Dr Golledge said.
Fyfe’s injury prompted three-time Essendon premiership star Tim Watson to declare he shouldn’t be captain.
Watson said Fyfe needed to concentrate on his recovery.
“There’s no way known that he’s going to be the captain of Fremantle next season,” Watson told SEN.
“How can you be under those circumstances? How can you be captain?
“He hasn’t run for four months, he hasn’t got back to training yet. He’s that far behind.
“His ability to get out there and play is going to affect his leadership.”
Wow, that’s pretty grim reading - serious infection.

I‘d be surprised if we see him before the middle of the season. And anyone on here saying that’s not a big deal needs their head read, he’s our captain and best player for chrissakes

must be mentally tough for him too, being so restricted in what he can do physically, and knowing it is impacting his career so much.

Could turn out like when the eagles lost Priddis and Mitchell, everyone was saying they will be bottom 4, they won a grand final the next year. Might be what we need for the players underneath to fully reach their potential...

Not career killer. But he needs to take his time and fully recover. Good opportunity to bring him into the team once the season is up and running and into a role that benefits the team as a whole. Also Mundy started 2021 like a house on fire but faded out a little.
