Jones is out of contract at the end of next year (2022) so I wonder if the conversation went like this:

Carlton: Hey Liam, you will be 31 and out of contract at the end of next year.
If you dont get Vaxxed, you can't play. We can pay you 25% of you salary next year and replace you for 2022, but it is every chance one of our younger guys go past you and we don't have a spot for you in 2023.

Jones: I'm not getting vaxxed.

Carlton: ok, how about we pay you your 25% now if you just retire and skedaddle, cause we probably aren't resigning you and then hopefully we can convince the AFL for some cap relief and list spot help

Jones: Fine

The interesting thing is "work closely with the AFL regarding options available to replace Jones' spot on the list for the 2022 season". They missed the cut-off for primary list delistings last Wednesday, so under the rules they'd only be able to replace him with a rookie (via SSP or mid-season draft) as an inactive list retiree... unless the AFL allow Carlton to delist him a couple of days late.

I mean, Jones is no Plaxico Burress but given Docherty is almost certainly immuno-compromised to some degree it’s fair to say he’s either got nothing between the ears or a lot of the wrong kind of stuff

Surely they have to change the 14 day isolation for double jabbed players. Not sustainable next season in winter when cases are everywhere, but we are just living with covid in the community. Has to be something similar to the nfl protocols.

14 days is if you test positive isn’t it? 7 days for close contacts if they test negative at the start and again at the end.

or

he is just a moron.

Everyone has their choice but really, what an utterly stupid Stance for him to take. Ending your career getting paid hundreds of thousands of dollars to kick a ball because you don’t want to do what science says too.

if any Essendon players had the same thought bubble they can get out too.

Yeah that’s what it is currently. But it should no longer be 14 days once we hit 90% vaccination. Most of these footballers that get it will brush off the virus in a heart beat. the nfl rule is if you have 2 negative tests in 1 day you’re allowed back, so literally all the players only miss 1 game at most.

It also feels like they have more players testing positive than when the actual pandemic hit.
They relaxed the rules enough that players may be more greatly exposed as they move through the community but it's easier to get back and play.

Well there’s more cases now than when the pandemic hit... we’ve been over 1000 cases a day for what? 8 weeks

Absolutely hilarious if true

Such a weird situation. It’s not a Jarryd Lyons level delisting but it’s not far off.

Don't worry, they've still got Rory Atkins on a 5 year deal.

they have really lost some players for not a lot in return

Zorko, Martin, Lyons, Greenwood.
Give them a priority pick to go with Carlton's for Liam Jones?
