Wish they would say over what distance that top average speed is recorded over, ie 1m, or 2m or 10m? Its not an instantaneous speed as its not a radar gun measurement, its from the gps units in the pouch on the back of the jumper so its the fastest average speed over a standard number of metres the system uses.

Would be interesting to know how far everyone can maintain say 98% of their top speed for. Bolt when he concentrated and ran the full 100m in Berlin in 2009 was able to run 97.5%+ of his to speed for the last 60 metres and the 10m between 30 and 40m he was at 94%.

Two clubs you sense will be on the edge of the top four will be Port Adelaide and Geelong – two teams that have been right in the premiership mix over recent seasons but have fallen a few hurdles short come finals time.

The Power’s young crop of stars – Zak Butters, Connor Rozee, Mitch Georgiades, Xavier Duursma, Willem Drew and Lachlan Jones – are an exciting group. But can Port rely on Travis Boak, Robbie Gray, Charlie Dixon and Tom Jonas – who’ll all be at least 31 by the start of next season – next season? Dual premiership Saint Leigh Montagna said it looms as a case of “cliff or conquer” for the Power in 2022.

this thread title is as incoherent as Ken at a post game conference

"don't judge us on 2021; judge us on 2022" or some such colonry
It has been our Preseason thread title since the end of 2018.

I can’t remember the title before that, since the only other preseason I’ve followed here was the 2018’s.

In actual pre season news. Ive noticed following a few Afl players from different clubs what stands out is Zak Butters' instagram stories. More often that not he puts up posts of him at a footy oval with some mates or balls. (not getting smashed and pissed up the walls on the weekends). For someome so young youd expect him to let his hair down a bit but his discipline is quite impressive. Big things coming

While I was disappointed with the 2020 prelim, I could understand - Richmond had the experience in those games, etc.

It was this year's prelim that really pissed me off. We looked like everything had finally clicked against Geelong in the first final - the defensive pressure required, skills, etc. And then we showed none of that against the Dogs, and just capitulated. What made it worse was that we had every possible advantage we could have asked for going in to that game.

What will always stick out to me with the 2020 prelim was that our vets were the ones that lost us the game. They just hadn't played in enough finals or were too used to losing. See in contrast with Boak missing a set shot directly in front (and looking uncomfortable as hell lining up for goal) or Hartlett going for the easy boundary option instead of making a much needed play with time ticking (and getting pinged) followed by a miskick into the F50 Vs Richmond's senior vets slotting in goals whenever they needed it.

If ever I thought hammer's time was up, it was that game. Brilliant positioning all game but very panicked ball use
