Let’s stick with a basic rule for this thread, that it’s for draft watch and discussion only.

It’s not for trade hypotheticals, who you think needs to be delisted or traded, how many games you think we will win, some other team will win, how many picks you want in the 1st round or discussion of current HFC players.

It’s about youngsters who are eligible for the draft in 2021.

Key dates to look out for:
  • NAB AFL Draft Combine: TBC
  • NAB AFL Draft: Wednesday November 24 - Thursday November 25
  • NAB AFL Pre-season and Rookie Drafts: Friday November 26

Glad I've distanced myself from this thread for the last couple of weeks, saved myself going round and round roundabouts I assume.
Yes you have... But that is half the fun

I’m just worried about Andrews build. If he doesn’t fill out a lot he will get monstered at AFL level. It’s a risk for me at 5!
They said the same about Buddy.
The thing is, all of the players with African heritage have filled out very well.
Majak, Allir, CJ.
I get the feeling that if Daw had started player the game before he was 10 he'd have been one of the greats.
There was always an indefinable quality missing from his game. The other Allir and CJ are both impressive IMO. Neither perfect but they're very good.

Hawthorn like both, Howes is a big chance for our second pick if he is still there. Shame it's not us. Our late wins cost us. You don't tank for draft position. However look at Adelaide who were prepared to trade an additional 2 first round picks for access to the number one pick. There wins against us and north cost them arguably two first rounders. I really like Norths approach to rebuild. Having said that there looks to be quality in the early 20s, Draper, Sonsie, Butler, Howes, Clark look like our type.

Howes too early for pick 13/15 I reckon.

But if it works for GWS.
SYL can you move for me pls.... Accident

We are probably just out of move up range. Howes could go to bris, Richmond or Melbourne.

I would offer 21 and F2 for 13 ... Can only try

imagine the ruck power next year before BigBoy retires. Fitting them all in the 22 would be an issue.is the fact we traded in lynch a clue we aren’t looking at andrews (who could be a rucking rover like Grundy or niknat. Imagine kick outs to andrews or reeves on either wing. Cover that opponents

on the other hand if we maintain the Clarko era approach, we would add some ruck cover later, if not andrews

I think looking at Andrew as a ruck is completely the wrong approach. Sam Darcy is over 200cm and son of one of the premier ruckman of the late 90s yet is considered a key forward only.
I think of Andrew more as a giant midfielder who will have the ability to tap to advantage but much more than that as he progresses, has the ability to play as a breakaway midfielder, a key marking forward or defender and anything in between.

People comparing him to Nic nat and Buddy might be on the mark as far as him being unique BUT I think in terms of versatility I feel he will be closest to Adam Goodes (who aside from whatever thoughts you have as a person, was a truly brilliant footballer but one who never really had a definite position)

Andrew is the riskiest pick on the board there is no doubt about that BUT easily has thr highest ceiling and could be anything. If we were 3 years into the rebuild and Mitchell's tenure and we had the outline of thr next premiership team then Andrew is a definite pick. I think the team that should take him is GWS with their cavalcade of talent and high draft picks he could come in and take a year or two playing mainly reserves and learning his craft. He certainly is one of the players I will be watching.

A week out, and I’m now leaning towards:

Johnson
Chesser
Roberts
Banks
Fejo
Greene

Assuming Finn and Rachele are gone already.

As a collective haul, that would give us some great midfield depth.

Fair to say I’ve bounced around with the first choice a bit. Would also be happy with Hobbs, Sinn, Erasmus, NWM, Ward.

Always been keen on Chesser and Banks.

Having seen Roberts a few times earlier in the year when he was performing well, I think he’d be a great pick with our second 2nd. Awesome kick and endurance, quick hands. A cheaper version of Ward, and IMO similar ceiling.

If we have a rookie position, I’m hoping for Ferres; has serious wheels and great overhead.

I think he'd be handy as a FB - could certainly go with some of the 2m+ Full Forwards when it comes to physical attributes.

Not sure that'd be the best use of his somewhat unique skills, but a 2m stopper with athleticism like that would be insane.

*Hartigan & many others have proven that you need not be the quickest or most skillful player to be effective as a FB, but it can't hurt.

Have high hopes that we can re-invent Callow as Hartigan's replacement at full back. Is a couple of cm's shorter but has much better hands, and just as much mongrel

Wouldn't that be a bonus to the list rebuild. To get a best 22 FB from a 2nd pick in mid season draft. Bargain bin.

We are 2 years into the rebuild

Sorry disagree, I think we are only one year in, 2020 was a write off for everyone and I consider 2021 the start. This year we added more new players from the draft and also started to get some work into CJ Scrimshaw. We added DGB, Seamus Mitchell, Downie and Brockman in the national draft but also added to the list Bramble, Callow and Newcombe. This year felt like the first year of a rebuild.

2 is the average of 3 and 1

From my previous post. I also opinioned that we could afford to have draftees do a 2 year apprenticeship, unless of course theres a Jordan Lewis available. but remember we declined to select tambling or griffen in order to pick up Rough and Buddy first before getting Lewis. Lewis was pretty much the ready to go player.

Mids: 2020:phillips, Mitchell, Downie, Saunders,Newcomb. 2019: Day Maginness, Morris
Others: 2020: DGB, Brockman, Callow. 2019 Frost, Jeka, Hartigan

But respect your opinion. its valid too We also took Patton in 2019, I never really got that. it was neither one thing nor the other

i think some players who might go mid to late draft that are great value imo(potentially criminally under rated)

Paul Curtis - Western Jets (was in the top 6 or so players for Vic Metro kicked 6 goals in 2 games for VM and averages 2 goals a game in NAB League)
Sam Banks - Tasmania (top end athleticism and good disposal (hbf/mid))
Cooper Beecken - Glenlg (played well for SA in the state games and was a stand out last year in a intra state game)
Josh Browne - East Frem (dominated for WA in the state series, dominated for East Frem averaging 32 disposals a game in Colts footy)
Kade Dittmar - East Perth (dominated for WA when he played midfield, has been good as a forw/mid in Colts footy)
Morgan Ferres - Sturt (was one of SA best in the state series)
Ned Long - Northern Knights (dominant early in the season, big body with surprising agility and speed off the mark, also great contested mark in the forward line)
Charlie Molan - GWV (great interceptor, had a great game for VC and when he is on really can turn the game for his team)
James Tunstill - East Perth (stood up in the state games for WA with tidy disposal)

i was going to mention Jake Soligo but he got mentioned in Cal Twomeys top 35 recently, Josh Fahey should be bid on in the first round too imo

This.
It's a massive reach.
i saw 3-4 games early in the year and Howes couldnt get near it as a forward, he moves onto the wing where he has more space and at a time when all the private school boys werent playing so a less competitive NAB League period and gets a bunch of poss, he then plays a very ordinary state game, personally i would let another team take the risk on him tbh.

Ned Long is now measured at 195cm and 92kgs yet still ran the 3rd fastest time (6:05) in the 2km time trial. Patrick Crips clone anyone? If we don’t get Johnson, I hope we find a way to pick up this lad. And, while I’m out shopping, I’ll have Paul Curtis as well.
