Effectively finished, with the 200 game requirement being SANFL games before 1991 for the Camries and 1997 for us.

James Borlase came close for us, but unfortunately Darryl didn't quite get to 200 before 1997. Darryl was about 35 years old when James was born, so probably the last of the Maggies players to have a kid (almost) eligible under the pre-1997 rule.

Not to mention that kid happened to be born during a 3-month secondment to Egypt, thus creating a farcical situation where he is categorised as an overseas player.

If James had been F/S eligible you'd hope that would've taken precedence over the NGA farce. The AFL probably would've made it a bidding war with the other mob, knowing those bastards. I wonder if the Crows (or anyone) would have picked him if he hadn't been NGA eligible - we actually had the chance to take him with a late pick but chose not to.

The funniest part of it all is that Brett Ebert technically wasn't eligible to come to us under the absolutely batshit rules as they stood in the early 2000s, because Russell didn't play 200 games within the defined period. It's just that nobody actually bothered to check. Farcical. I'm glad we're past the point where it's going to matter.

Yeah, it doesn't matter in practise now. So this should be an easy win for the club, to correct a historical wrong, by having the AFL change it to 100 games for the PAFC, regardless of whether that's purely SANFL, a combination of SANFL and AFL or purely AFL. With no availability to other players. Another nail in the idiocy of two clubs and that we're a franchise like the mob down the road.

Serious question: Port Adelaide Power supporters claim they are a continuation of the Port Adelaide Magpies and not a separate entity (correct me if I am wrong please).

If this is the case why is the Port Father and Son selections:

"(iv) The Port Adelaide Football Club may include a person on its Primary List if that person’s father played 200 or more Senior Matches (being either home and away or finals series matches) at one of the following clubs prior to, but not including, 1997:
(A) Port Magpies Football Club;
(B) Woodville Football Club;
(C) West Torrens Football Club;
(D) North Adelaide Football Club;
(E) Central Districts Football Club; or
(F) West Adelaide Football Club."

Why hasn't this been amended to just be 100 or more Senior Matches Port Magpies Football Club?

The father-son rules for VFL expansion teams were based on those teams being newly created franchises and being given access to the sons of players from their associated state league. As the only existing non-VFL club to join the AFL these rules disadvantaged Port Adelaide and should not have applied.

Brisbane get Jono Brown as a father-son because his father played 51 games for Fitzroy but Ports can't get Brad Ebert whose father played 112 games for Port Adelaide.

Ascot Vale kit. PBs is Moonee Valley. Both local clubs from the Essendon league, but are pretty close in proximity to the suburb of Essendon (as opposed to clubs like Rupertswood, East Sunbury and Burnside Heights who are miles away).

He said he went to Vic Hill in Adelaide, and had lace ups made in Richmond's design after seeing Port wear them, when Richmond played us in a trial game in Broken Hill in 1974.

The lace ups made for Richmond back in the mid 1970's were definitely the prison bar design, but in the tigger colours.
There was a pic printed in the local press back then showing Neville Roberts wearing one when he was on the Richmond list.
