Grand Slam The Australian Summer of Tennis 2022

it might be after the Aus Open again.

A lot of things have changed in this country since the tour down under was called off as well

I'll give you the back story about the TDU - The UCI gave Adelaide until the end of September to make a decision on 2022 - The SA Government said they couldn't have the race, even though the State COVID Plan suggested the dates fitted into their re-opening plan - Last week of October, SA had a change of mind and made discreet enquiries to the UCI about having a 2022 race BUT by then it was too late - Of course the knock on effect was the cancellation of the Cadel Evans race and the Herald/Sun Tour - Yet, the Bay Crits in Victoria will happen on January 8 and 9.

Bit annoying how this is coming out in drips and draws. Just announce the calendar!

Strange but there must be an extra tournament in 2021? So Adelaide will host a WTA500 and ATP250 in the first week of January and then a WTA 250 and ATP 250 in the second week.

Maybe there are no warm up events outside Australia?

Yeah, no Doha or anything like that. So expect more tournaments here to compensate

No Perth or Hobart either.

Hobarts WTA must have gone to Adelaide. :( Auckland 250's seem to do the same thing

Interesting. Sydney and Adelaide the big winners there. Those 2 WTA events in Melbourne are going to get lost but those players would have to play somewhere.

Great to have qualies here hence the challengers, in 2020 it was meant to be in Canberra the first week for both but ended up having to move to Bendigo because of the bushfires. Had been in Canberra previous years to that.

Shame we don't have Doha and Auckland, I just want a completely normal schedule back.

While I am happy we get two weeks of lead ups its a shame for Hobart. Obviously Covid related and probably everyone saves a bit of money with existing infrastructure. I presume it will go back to how it was.

The second week in Adelaide in particular on the ATP side will be fairly light on for names. I still think they should try to get that tournament done on the Friday and maybe play some exhibition in Melbourne on the Saturday to meet the TV requirements

New Zealand is selective in the events they hold in COVID times in which they can hold cricket and rugby union, but yet not tennis - It's disappointing there is no tournament in Hobart.

Looking at the bigger picture there is the opportunity one or two more tournaments in OZ in September and October as part of the Asian Swing - It's surprising Aussie corporates will not stump up cash to support more events.

Hopefully the new variant doesn't throw a spanner in the works for the summer of tennis. But if I've learnt anything from the past 2 years, things can change in a moment in regards to covid and restrictions.
