My god, where are the mids!???

I feel like im gunna spew.
We could potentially land a combo of Butler, Draper and Taylor with our picks.

I'm holding off on the tantrums until we see the result off all our picks

Butler, Bazzo & Williams still on the board too if that’s the way it pans out. A lot of quality players will be available at our trifecta of picks. Exciting.

Lock it in boys we'll draft two small forwards and a flanker tomorrrow night. More players we don't need.

When was the last time Richmond drafted pure ball winning midfielders high in the draft around the pick they were tipped to drop?

Outside Dusty and Cotchin NO ONE.

FFS.

Firstly, pretty hard to draft the next Cotchin or Dusty when you don’t have pick 2 or 3 in the draft; and the last top 10 selection the club had was 9 years ago.

Second, RCD was picked by the club as a midfielder at around the pick he was supposed to drop. In fact:

2016 - Pick 29 - Shai Bolton; has transitioned to some midfield time.
2017 - pick 17 - Jack Higgins; was thought to ultimately transition to midfield (and still may). Tipped to go higher.
2018 - pick 20 - RCD; an inside midfielder. Tipped to go higher but around pick 20.
2019 - pick 21 - Dow; a midfielder.

So four of the last five first picks we’ve had have been a) quite late [earliest at 17] and b) have or were likely to have the ability to play midfield.

Third, you need talent first and foremost. Regardless of position. The ‘ball winning talent’ at pick 9 was Hobbs and Erasmus. Gibcus is a better prospect than both.

At 17, maybe Goater? I would have taken Matthew Johnson personally but he isn’t a ‘ball winner’, he’s a one-step-off the pack player.

So enlighten me, what would have done differently?

I think as a collective we are too weak across the midfield against the competition.

I assume Mathew Johnson said he was not going interstate which was suggested on the bombers board when I thought I was on the RFC board.

Goater is a North supporter so he probably goes to them but they are starting to have a stacked midfield and getting JHF is a massive kick in their arse to get them going.

Motlop we do not need as a small forward, Shai is so much better, let alone Stacky, Taylor might get to us, we do not want Conway, we have enough rucks. There are some handy players still available to get to us if we are lucky but we are weak across the midfield including the wings, especially for size. Dusty cannot do it all. I have said it before RCD is more a back who can rotate into the midfield for me, could have used Goaters zip and reach even if his kicking was a little iffy at times. Knevitt does not do it for me in terms of the strings and others seem more on the vanilla side, still there are some handy players at value still possible but the X-factor drops off

If we assume Johnson is the big flight risk I would trade up for Goater at least but we are allergic to trading but thats just me. Still other bigfooty posters thinking similar thoughts mentioning Butler and so forth, they are aware of the talent and are not idiots. Even West Coast ignored Johnson which was interesting.

RFC is weakest on the wings and Brown is not the solution I think, he is a back. Like Brisbane I respect the wing position and the hybrids some clubs attempt are farcical. I think Goater would make a very handy winger who could help in the guts, same with Johnson

id like to trade one of the next 3 picks out for next year too but cant see any takers, maybe GC ?
so we're backing in 2 of RCD,Dow or Ross to step up in 2022 ? hmmmm:think:
Dow & Brown can be our staple wingmen for the next 8 -10 years
the next Wood & Walsh ?

Dow and Brown are not wingman.

They can play but they are not wingman

Brown reminds me of a taller Jayden Short. Can break lines get forward and be damaging by foot. Maybe we have other plans for Shorty like a wing?

I rate Johnson and Goater well clear of the rest of what is still left, in terms of upside, especially in terms of fit for RFC.

After that don't mind the likes of Bazzo, Butler, Taylor and others to a lesser extent like a Howes but I am not anticipating many will slip to far. Even Roberts with a later pick. Other clubs who have not had a crack and have a little time on their hands with ability to trade will be foolish not to cherry pick

I have no issue trading all three second rounders for Freo's pick and get something back to get a Roberts a little later.

For me the draft pool is starting to thin out and we should be trading up to cherry pick even if we just pick 4 and I have no issue using a future second. Like two seconds for Freo, two seconds for North's including a future
