If we start having success in 2023/24 (Finals/top 4) I think it'll be much easier to keep this group together. Players are generally much more willing to take a pay cut on successful teams. If we're floundering mid table come 2024 the vultures will come from all corners for our elite players. Player retention has not been an issue for us for a long time but has it been because of who we were retaining or the culture of the club or a combo of the two? There is already some fellas deserving of a significant payrise in the next couple of years Thomas, Zurhaar, LDU. Then by that time we'd be hoping for significant contributions from Powell, Phillips, Horne and they'll be due for a payrise. It's going to be very interesting as to how we make it work, but if we've just played off in a prelim or granny then it'll be a much more attractive place to stick around.

Well we start with a F1st, Cooper Harvey, and 2 x F4ths.
+ all our 2023 picks.
We don't have a heap of trade assets TBH. But that is ok.
KPB is the only spot I really think we need to bolster.
Even that is over blown in here we have plenty of options. Especially if we don't play 3 in the 1sts.
This time last year if you had posted in here that JZ was going to play defence and play well you would have been sh*t canned.
He did and did do well.
Trust in the Noble one.
He is good.
Cant seem to find the contract list but I know there's a few kids on there who would net us at least a 3rd rounder.
We've got some draft capital if we really want it.

We have enough for 1 billion Greenwood deals.
We will have options.

I'm a bit worried about Moore's injuries.
Been in the system since 2015, hasn't played a full season for one reason or another.

I don't think we need to spend what he would require.
KPD's are always changing clubs.
I would prefer to pick one up for a second rounder who is decent.
Rather than pay someone like Moore $800k+ to change clubs.

yep 200%.
If only we could pick up a tom stewart clone.
I reckon Charlie Dean would have been close.
I'd even settle for Tom Highmore.

So did we not list Lynch?

Does that mean we have one free rookie list spot for the SPP and mid-season draft
We are listing Lynch as our one SPP.
He goes straight onto the rookie list.
Im not sure when the SPP period starts.
I guess if the AFL relaxes the soft cap rules before the season starts we may be able to grab someone else and pay Lynch as we would every other coach.
But I doubt that happens.

I think the club likes the forward line cover he brings.
We're pretty light on experienced key forwards.

even at the expense of not being able to recontract some of our younger guys in 2-3 years?
the side we're building is going to be very expensive to keep together.
So you don't want to get a gun to help our list? We will find the money for who we want in 2-3 years, fortunately we should be in a position to hold onto that 15-25 list profile players with reasonable money to stay for success like other successful clubs do.ie. McGovern from WCE just took a cut for this year to keep JK and Hurn for another last roll of the dice for next year.

I'd would argue that Norths list fully mature would be a lot more expensive than WC's but I get your point.

$800k for our one big ‘Hail Mary’ at the end of 2022 actually isn’t that much.

Would happily pay that and be confident of holding our developing stars.

If Moore continues his trajectory, he’ll get offered at least 5 x $1M I reckon.

And there’s a dearth of younger KPD around the league at the moment - so if Moore wants to leave he can ask for the world
