Opinion Port Adelaide's biggest rival aside from the Crows

Whenever people ask me what "We Are Port Adelaide" means, I'll show them this from now on.

When I first saw this I thought it was a Crows reference.

Reason being is Adelaide have two premierships and Port Adelaide have one premiership.

Adelaide have two premierships but one has a pretty decent sized asterisk next to it given they finished 5th in 98 then lost their first final.

Port Adelaide has 35 premierships (if you dont include the 98 and 99 sanfl flags).

Why would anyone exclude the 1998 and 1999 SANFL flags?

Port Adelaide have won 36 SANFL flags you'd think you'd count them all but that's just me.

Its how most clubs count their flags, but yes some do disagree.

In 1998 and 1999 the highest level Port Adelaide played at was in the AFL, and we didn't win flags there, meaning we effectively won flags in a seconds competition.

As a comparison to Geelong, I'd say you should count your first 6 premierships (up to 1963) in the VFL/VFA as legitimate, even though it was a state comp, because state level football was the highest level of football at that time. However you wouldn't count the 2012 Geelong Reserves VFL premiership as a premiership, because in 2012 the highest level Geelong played at was in the AFL.

This isn't to say you can't celebrate winning a reserves flag in the VFL now or we can't celebrate a SANFL flag now, but they aren't on a level where they should be added to an official count imo.

I struggle to think of any clubs aside from the Bulldogs who would consider their club to have more rivalry with the Crows than they do with the Power.

Similar to the Dockers in that you'll be hard pressed to find any club which considers their club to have more rivalry with the Dockers than they do with the Eagles.

We don't really have a rivalry with West Coast, we just have a tendency to play dramatic games where the away team usually wins.

It depends on the era in the AFL, 1997 - 2007 it would have been the Fruit Tingles, Wobblers, Brisbane and later Geebung.
2008 - 12 we were that bad Mallala, Two Wells, Virginia and Kanmantoo would have all fancied their chances.
2013 onwards, probably Tingles, Wobblers, Geebung and West Coast.

Is there any other team that'd also consider us a rival, where we're clearly the one with the upper hand? (Adelaide we're back to just in front, after Hinkley cluster*ed a huge lead over them). Others like Brisbane - sure we beat them in a GF, but they won 3 prior when we were also up and they've spanked us lately. West Coast? Our 'rivalry' is just giving them improbable wins at AO. Collingwood don't care about us, Geelong we're the butt of their jokes. Richmond had potential with 2014, then Hinkley again. The teams we've a good record over aren't rivalries.

The Collingwood rivalry seems strictly off field. There's nothing there between playing groups.

GFs count more than anything else and the only GF between the two sides we won.

Power/Geelong probably needs the Power to beat us in a preliminary final or a grand final for it to really spice up.

Power/Brisbane the rivalry is there two ways and with both sides recently returning to being regular finalists after being in the wilderness for the best part of a decade, it'll just take the two sides to meet in a final again for everyone to be reminded that there's no disputing the fact this is a real rivalry.

Not that I think its a rivalry at all, but there is a surprising amount of Freo supporters on bigfoity atleast that seem to hate Port which I've always found odd.

I'm honestly pretty shocked by this.

I would have thought they would have Collingwood, Sydney and Fremantle miles above anybody else.
