Debatable:
Defenders - A.Pearce, Hamling, Cox, Logue, Ryan, Young, Clark, Aish, Wilson, Chapman, Walker, Hughes (12)
Forwards - Lobb, Taberner, Amiss, Treacy, Walters, Sturt, Schultz, Switta, Frederick, Henry, Colyer (11)
It’s not hard to understand. Freo had decided to draft Amiss. Not negotiable. With the remaining pick it was down to Johnson or Erasmus who they rated equally. Obviously Erasmus got picked as he ticked more boxes in some way.
Fremantle couldn’t believe MJ was still on the board & felt grabbing a player they rated inside the top 10 now was better than the alternative.
I would have been disappointed had they chose not to.

Yeah there's essentially two wing spots available for our myriad of flankers who want to make it their own. They all seem to want to play HBF or HFF though.
There's no depends in this case. It simply can't be correct as pretty much everyone is saying in this thread. Other reports had us offering a F2 and pick 23 which is already 'overs' for a 2 pick upgrade in the 20's but understandable if we were considering Johnson at 7.
A top 5ish pick and another early 2nd (23) for pick 21 (Johnson) would not have been offered on its own because with (much) less trade capital (pick 7) Hawthorn had already gone in another direction. You would nearly have to rate Johnson as the number 1 pick in the draft to make that trade which we clearly didn't given we ignored him at pick 7.
Either that report has gotten F1 and F2 mixed up or more likely, he has carefully said "F1 was included in the trade" and left out what Freo were sending back to help generate a story and to further sell the value (and hope associated) with Freo's acquisition of Johnson.
Yes, and to add to this, Walls has dispelled the F1 myth.

A) because it proves we didn't make a mistake rejecting the Hawks deal.
B) it will stop lazy media reporting to about what Freo gave up every single time Johnson plays in his first year.
Makes much more sense it was a future 2nd that was offered not a future first. So funny all the freo posters defending their club rejecting the offer from the hawks that supposedly included a future first, when there is no way known any club would ever do that.

1. Bullish on Noddy, who he sees as overtaken Valente to claim a spot in the 22.
2. Bullish on Chapman, who doesn't lose contests with his freakishly long arms, and sees him as a certainty to be part of our 22 next season.
3. Would have taken Erasmus ahead of Johnson due to Erasmus' ability to play forward, but lineball between the two with Johnson almost certainly a 150+ game player. Also sticking to his guns on Hawks offering a future first and their second in exchange for pick 21 and a future from Fremantle (podcast was recorded the day after his tweet.)
4. Brodie might struggle to break into the 22 due to the amount of quality midfielders Freo have, and doesn't seem to have physically developed while at Gold Coast. However, he could be an option if we decide to introduce an accumulator-type player into our midfield due to his ball-hunting ability and weird slipperiness when tackled.
5. Young may struggle being targeted by oppositions as Freo's most elite ball user coming out of defense. Shannon Hurn comparison.
6. Clark has returned to training in very good condition, which is a great sign given one of the knocks on him at Geelong was attitude and returning to preseasons in sub-optimal condition.
7. Very positive on the decision to use cap-space to bring in Brodie and the Johnson-pick rather than splurging on a player we didn't need, and taking a long-term vision on our list rather than trying to force a premiership before Fyfe retires.

Freo look to have done well. Prioritised needs with picking Amiss first, who was probably best available at that pick ad well, and Erasmus/Johnson were best available at their picks that also suit needs to replace fyfe and Mundy. Surprised Johnson went so late but you don't look a gift horse in the mouth and he landed in their lap.

Agreed, should be interesting, especially considering most WCE fans wanted one of either Johnson or Erasmus and were pretty angry we passed Joshnson (and Hobbs) for Chesser, myself included.
I had written Foley off until mid last season, came on in leaps and bounds. Not too knowledgeable about Valente though although a few on our board wanted him.
What's your thoughts on his future? Was rated a bit of a slider from memory.
Looks like he's now fallen too far behind, with NOD, Chapman, Brodie, Erasmus and MJ coming in, may be a bridge too far to catch up now.
Could still surprise though, at least there's been sightings of him this year.
Yeah, seen his name bandied around a bit this preseason. Hopefully he can make a fist of it, for his sake at least. Going to be tough with some good talent coming in ahead of him as you say. Last chance saloon for him methinks, hope he proves the doubter wrong.

I think Mark Duffield said Valente would have debuted late last season if he didn't have to return to SA for personal reasons.
I imagine if Valente puts a good preseason in he'll be playing the preseason matches and would be as likely as anyone to make the round 1 side.
