Prediction Round 1 2022 Team

This probably sounds crazy but I'd rather play Joyce at FB with Doogs at CHB vs Doogs at FB and Battle at CHB.

Both Battle and Howard are best when they can roll off and intercept.

Doogs is better at it.
I don't think your crazy😊
I think Joyce has the potential to make it, the games he played this year we're good.
He is a good size, quick and improving.

I'm tipping a couple of newbies for Round 1

FB: Webster - Howard - Wilkie
HB: Coffield - Allison - Sinclair
C: Hill - Steele - Owens
HF: Membrey - Marshall - Billings
FF: Butler - King - Higgins

R: Ryder - Jones - Clark

Int: Highmore - Crouch - Ross - Byrnes

Emerg: McKenzie
Can’t see Owens replacing Dmac straight up

People saw Joyce when he was a new rookie, and had only just started playing AFL.
They then decided that was what he was always going to be.

Looking at all the possibilities, I think that Battle is the one who needs to take the next step to establish himself. Unless we have a lot of injuries, I don't see a lot of games for the untried players yet at senior level. I'm banking that Byrnes and Connolly will keep improving. Rucks might be our problem if Paddy can't play a full season or RoMa has injury issues.

Jeez things have must changed - I got the feeling from the comments on here in the lead up to the draft that he would automatically replace Steele.

190/1 cm, fast, good mark, physically ready to play.

Of the draft picks he's the most likely to play round 1 and I don't know about anyone else but I love seeing a newbie in the first round.

I think it's going to be really tough for Leo to break back in with a new group of draftees, Paton back and competition for spots. Bytel should get opportunity because the inside mid roles aren't exactly stacked with options. You'd think that getting rid of Dunstan was to open a door for him so he really needs to repay the faith and have a big year. Byrnes, DMac types are going to have to hold their spots with Billings and Gresham both potentially playing that HF or HB/wing role that the others play as they try to stick couple of new kids in that forward pocket role to ease them in.

Hopefully the injuries stay at bay and we have real competition for spots and no one gifted games that don't deserve it. We haven't had much youth lead competition in recent years so will be good to see some raw talent injected in for a change.

Wilkie is pretty much our second "key" defender.

Coffield, Highmore or Battle all play the 3rd/4th intercept - I'm just adding Allison to that list.

Personally with Allison developing and my man newly arrived at the club, I reckon Battle will be looking for another club next year.
Very much doubt that Allison or the new SA guy are going to push Battle out next year , others might but not those two and id be having Gresh in the team way before Ross

Disagree, to me the most likely to play would be Wanganeen-Milera. High picks get paraded if they can put together a bit of preseason form. His skill set could see him sit forward as a pressure option like Long or off HBF to ease him in. Owens probably suits a wing role but they are pretty full ATM and not many start off there.

I reckon Ross will play every game again and disappoint a few who wish he'd delist himself every year. Agree with Battle over Allison and SANG who is called Oscar Adams.

So that's his name the New SA guy , thanks

Disagree , i doubt any of them will get a game early , what makes people think these three new kids are going to leap frog , Bytel , Byrnes , Leo and with Paton and Gresh to come back in , Just because they are shiny and new doesn't get them a game ,

"New SA guy" - wash your mouth out - his name is OSCAR ADAMS and he will be a gun!!!!

I agree on Gresh ahead of Ross but ATM I still have my doubts on Gresh's level of fitness to be able to play first up in Round 1.

I still don't get the love for Battle. Yep he had his best year in 2019 as a defender but is was as part of the 3rd worst defence in the league and has been barely sighted there since despite a desperate need at times for another tall defender.

I'm picking (hoping, dreaming???) Allison as a big surprise this year. Based on a very small amount of phone footage from training - looks a different player.

I think NWM would be expected to play a role too similar to Hill to be considered as a starter early on. That's the main main reason why I think Owens is a better chance.

NWM is a new shiny toy. They usually parade them early even for a taste unless they are miles off. The NGA kids probably not so much but if any of the existing boys think that they'll get a gifted game they might find the going hard.

I wouldn't be surprised to see NWM playing a small forward role early in the year.

Nothing's changed , he's still a kid with one outstanding Junior game to his name.

I think there were a few good ones just at the right time of year though. His best spot looks like on the wing or outside mid, not sure that he walks into one of those spots.

He played the 2nd half of the VFL season in defence, and improved a lot in every game he played.

I think they'd still have to give a massive leap of faith to put him in over Battle and Joyce. I didn't watch heaps of Sandy but the few games I did watch he was unnoticeable at best. He looked a long way behind Clavarino.

He's miles behind those two. He would be rag dolled as a key defender.

His best chance is as a third tall and we have plenty of options there.

It would definitely be an unexpected call seeing him at the start of the season and something I dont think will happen. But I don't think end of season VFL form was as poor as it has been presented at times. He got a lot better throughout the season and started to take the game on more rather than looking lost. He's put a good amount of size on now so is something you would want pushing for selection in the 2nd half of the season.

I'm not as big on Battle being a defender as most others. I think he is a defensive downgrade on the Howard, Wilkie, Highmore trio while also not adding any extra height to that combination. He'd be a back-up option for me.

I'm a bit concerned about how Gresh and Paton will come back after those serious injuries- they are injuries that can take an edge off pace, and Gresh is not the quickest player out there.
