Couldn't think of a better way to kick off the season - traditional 2.10pm Saturday timeslot, the weather should be still mild/warm at the time of year, opponent is a big drawing club (which will help with the $$$ being our "home" game)

Hopefully V/line won't be doing "scheduled" maintenance that weekend and instead put on extra services to get as many people to travel up from Geelong as possible. Surely 3 and half months notice is enough time for them to organise things properly

What was the BS reason why Richmond after winning a premiership couldn't travel down the highway for our home match?

Just curious because current premiers Melbourne & fellow grand finalist Western Bulldogs, both have trips down the highway next season...

Geelong’s 2022 fixture will be welcomed by members and supporters as it offers an incredible array of quality home games and away games in every Australian state.

The Cats will again have nine home games at GMHBA Stadium, with a match ups against 2021 finalists Melbourne, Western Bulldogs, Brisbane, and Port Adelaide. The Cats will also welcome Adelaide, Fremantle, West Coast, St Kilda, and North Melbourne to GMHBA Stadium.

Our double-up matches look very good, though a little surprised we missed out on playing Hawthorn twice. Facing some strong sides at home (Dogs, Dees, Port, Lions) helps us massively in terms of banking H&A wins.

Amazed how Collingwood ended up with so many Friday/Saturday fixtures in the opening rounds. From a neutral POV, they are far and away the most dogshit team to watch in the competition. Carlton 2015 all over again.

Gotta say, based on this it's hard to tell when there matches are

don’t forget it's currently undergoing stage 5 redevelopment - to get 9 games is a bonus compared to previous redevelopment periods where we had 7 games

That may be so... But my #hashtag stands.
We've been bent over for decades & decades.
Once the construction is completed and the 40,000 seat stadium is up and running I expect 11 HOME games just like every other club in the competition.
With the FULL backing of every other club in the comeptition.
It is by far... The Weirdest, strangest set up of any premier competition in the sporting world.

The poster before you "couldn't think of a better way" to start the year than playing a home game at the MCG vs Essendon.

So whats the difference to playing a home game against Richmond at the G?

Your club is happy too.

So whats all the panic about?

Guessing the above is a poor attempt at a joke

Geelong actually requests 11 home games in Geelong each season - surely not an unreasonable request to play ones home games at ones home ground

And unlike other teams, we don't sell home games to play at interstate venues, but it's the AFL who has decided we've got to play "home" matches on the oppositions home ground to help make up the difference for those games sold by other teams
