As in, he should never set foot inside the D50.

No reports of him down back since the first week that I’ve seen!

I think everyone agrees he’s a KPF but just keen to get him I think some opinions are expressing.

He could possibly come off the bench for 50% GT when the matchups or venue allow it, or even form demands it.

I can’t see him playing 70%+ gt this year coming off injury and at his tank development lvl

Am I right in saying height in cm minus 100 = goal weight in kg?

This is a rule of thumb thing.

some blokes play a touch heavier depending on position. Some blokes a touch lighter

If you said height in cms less 100 +/- 3kgs you probably have about the range you'd be looking for.

Some also aren't seemingly hampered by more, Fyfe and Petracca as examples of players who break even giving that as a range. Hipwood is also outside of that but the other way.

Will be interesting what balance we go with up forward.
If we go 3 talls , that means some of our smaller forwards and or mids will miss out.
That might affect Taylor , ford , Mahoney , Scott for game time

Larks could quite easily be viewed as 2nd or 3rd Banana by years end.

As for the above, Taylor, Mahony and Scott should struggle for a spot, Ford not so much.

You’re kidding right? Larkey was 1st this year, will be next year, and most likely the year after that.

There’s not one forward on our list as a key position forward player who isn’t coming from a long way back on where he is.

There’s potential and there’s runs on the board. It’s not the same.

Personally think Scott Taylor lizard and Polec will compete for wings.... jmah spice and Curtis for the one or two smalls... ford cover for zhar

When you’re 18th and the worst team in the competition - all you have is potential - actuality is irrelevant.

Larkey is much better than Petrie, but I honestly think Chom has more talent in his little finger.

I am sure you said the same thing about Horse at the end of 1991. Horse is our number 1 forward - That Carey is just horses Sherpa if he can ever get on the Park.

Where as I already had the #18 on my back by the time we played Sydney in Sydney in 1992.

Things can change very quickly.

Larkey is not better than Petrie. He certainly could be, but he's not there yet. He would have to put together 3 more seasons as consistent as the second half of 2021 to be placed alongside Petrie. Petrie is an All Australian, and a 5 time leading goalkicker of our club.

I see Comben as the Jarrad Waite to Larkey's Petrie. Waite was the one deep in the forward line taking pack marks while Petrie played a lot of good footy leading up to the wings and taking marks out of the backline. Hopefully they will have a lot more time together than those two did, but they were a very potent duo while it lasted (with Ben Brown as the third.) Longmire and Carey are another example of such a duo. Carey would be the better player if you compared them head to head, obviously, but they played different, complementary roles and both were better for it.

I think one of the biggest positives of 2021 is that Larkey was forced by our lack of forward options to develop his game as a deep marking forward. Now that we have more options for tall forwards maybe he can move into a role that suits him better, but he'll carry forward the experience and development that he got out of this year.

Good call, Comben definitely reminds me of W80 on the limited showing he has had so far. Waite was a gun footy player and Comben's size and mobility definitely reminds me of him.

Sorry old mate, I meant he’s better than Petrie as a forward at the same age.

I’m not sure that’s up for debate.

I recall talking to one of the better full backs of W80s era and he named Jarrad as the player he most hated playing on behind Buddy, which is incredible really considering Kennedy, Hawkins, etc. kicking around.

I rate W80 really highly. He was a great footballer, averaged 2 goals and about 15 disposals while he played for us and was a big part of why we were as good as we were in 2015 and early 2016. He could link up like a CHF and play deep forward as well. Could run, jump and kick well. If we get Comben to provide something like a decade of Waite at his best we'll be laughing.

Yep, he mentioned that it was just the sheer variety of ways he could impact the game that made him hard to play on and just mentally exhausting. Quick on a lead, a great one on one mark, a great pack mark, and he could do some freakish things on the ground as well. Continuity probably meant his career didn't reflect what it should have been.

Yep, we haven't that kind of roaming CHF since W80 left.

Larkey is best utilised as a close to goal KPF.

He's excellent one on one when the ball comes in quickly over the top. He's also a deadly set shot out to about 40m.

Comben strikes me more as the get up the ground, hit the logos type CHF who will crash packs and bring the ball to ground even if he doesn't take the mark.
