Spinners don't work in the sub continent... Even warnie the goat didn't play well there. We're better off with a pace battery minus starc who has proven woeful form there
Last 4 years on the sub continent:

Pace: 547 wickets for 16420 runs conceded. Ave: 30.01

Filtered to remove all sub continent teams:

221 wickets for 7377 runs conceded. Ave 33.38

Spin:

1407 wickets for 33109 runs. Ave 23.56

Sub continent removed:

375 wickets for 12159. Ave 32.42

Recent Aus sub continent tours

SL 2016

Haze and Starc and 2 spinners each game. Lost series because only two batsmen averaged over 27.

India 2017

Haze, Starc and Cummins all played. No more than 2 played each match. SOK and Lyon bowled more overs than the quicks and dominated a competitive series. Only 2 bats averaged over 32 the reason the series was lost.

Bangladesh 2017

Drawn series. Cummins and Haze played the test we lost narrowly. Only 1 pacemen (and Cartright) in the test we won. Lyon imperious. Agar quality support.

Pakistan (UAE) 2018

Well beaten. Khawaja and Finch decent. All other batsmen were useless. Only Starc and Siddle toured.

Bangladesh 2020.

Cancelled. Covid-19

Summed up. You're on the wrong path, and we will take (and play) no less than 2 spinners in each of our 3 tours away in 2022. Recent history suggests that how we bat will determine success or failure. Our spinners hold up alright.

Thanks for that Art, good to know i was right.

SL should not be counted in any stats, they are a woeful cricket team. Afghanistan and Ireland are as good at the moment.

Added to the list.

Educate yourself sometime, you might not get as much s**t woefully wrong.

The subcontinent is geographically known as.. India. Foreign spinners average 41 there in the last 4 years. We've had more success when playing accurate pace... but the problem is our batting usually lets us down against spin. This is a warm up series against England, but they have been woeful of late against everyone. 2 years ago they crumbled (with a similar line up) to Ireland for 60 odd and only won the Test because Ireland are inexperienced at pressure situations and crumbled for 38 chasing around 180 to win.

Bangladesh a decent chance to get their first test win outside of the sub-continent and Zimbabwe against the "test champions" NZ.

Crazy. As of this moment, New Zealand hold a 17 run second inning lead at the loss of 5 wickets.

Amazing stuff from Bangladesh. New Zealand have really fallen away since winning the WTC.
Hardly IMO they only made the WTC by playing mostly lesser nations and/or mostly at home. And played less too.

Them got a final in favourable conditions for a swing and seam attack

Yes the venue of the final heavily went in their favour. Always felt it was unfair as well they had a Test series in England as part of their preparation prior to the final itself.

They were never worthy of being there. No test series wins over Aus or India and only one against England and SA. The schedule got them into the final and over rate penalties to other countries

Only tuned in towards the end and saw the declaration. Once again England won’t be taking 20 wickets. Still unsure why Broad didn’t play the first test.

Last time England took all 20 wickets in an Australian Ashes was the 5th test in 2014. That is now 9 straight ashes tests.
