One of those was the Independent Medical Exemption Review Panel appointed by the Victorian Department of Health. They assessed all applications to see if they met the Australian Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation (ATAGI) guidelines," the statement read.

The Victorian government released a statement on Tuesday night saying that it had worked closely with Tennis Australia on setting up an "independent and rigorous process to assess requests for medical exemptions at the Australian Open".

"Any player who is granted a medical exemption will have gone through a two-stage, independent process to verify they have a genuine medical condition that meets the criteria for an exemption."

Never said I was happy with the exemption granted, but it's a fair stretch to put the blame on a state government when Novak's medical exemption application had to first meet national guidelines as set by ATAGI - the fact his application was meet their guidelines would indicate he was deemed acceptable at a federal level





And again, we don't actually know on what basis he applied for an exemption - there's other players who have received exemptions to compete in the various tournaments this summer, especially on the back of the "had covid within the past 6 months" exemption clause

Considering that it's Tennis Australia who have been most vocal about getting him out here, who knows what loopholes they tried to find to get him out here, or which medical experts they found to help with the exemption application. Interestingly for them though, not sure it's going to take long for them too realise that being as vocal as they have in backing in Novak may not be as popular with the public as they expected it to be
