Geezus of all the bad decisions.

Essendon tried to shortcut when Matthew Knights had the club on the right track. Then Hird tried to shortcut even further. Hird was completely untried as a coach. Thompson was brought in because Essendon knew Hird had some serious limitations. (As anyone with ZERO coaching experience at ANY level would do).
But even so - Essendon still made the dumbest decision of their history.
And not only did they make the dumb decision and watch the horrendous, historical, globally significant outcome of that. They also defended this moron relentlessly.

Imagine if hird and Essendon didn't get caught and they actually started winning finals and a premiership? Imagine what that would have done to the game.
"Bringing the game into disrepute".
Twice.

And now Giants want to bring him on board.

THink of all the great leaders in footy. Think of all those leaders that have helped a playing group go from thereabouts to premiership winning. Pick any leader or coach from Richmond, or Hawthorn, or Brisbane back in the day. Think of all these people who didn't (accidentally?) become central figures in the sport's biggest ever doping scandal.
Go even further - all the other codes and the great players and leaders that could also provide top level guidance and support to the GWS leadership group. There would be literally hundreds of great people that could fulfil this role.

I'm all for second chances - but why give this guy a chance ahead of all those others? Same mentality as giving Carey a second chance and getting that idiot to host every bit of football coverage he can. Yes people desere second chances. No they don't deserve them ahead of better qualified people who have royally ****ed up.

Honestly - if GWS couldn't find someone better equipped for this job they are pathetic.

Finishing 14th in his last season and winning two of the last ten matches? Is that the right track?

With Hird turning up at GWS they could find themselves more in the limelight they would hope, as every win will be scrutanised and so will the players who have outstanding games.

You should break ties with Hirdy. You need not wish him so well. Brought Windy Hill to its knees.

Why shouldn't I wish him well?

He ****ed up as coach undoubtedly; but after being hung out to dry as the face of the entire saga, years of media hounding and a suicide attempt, I'd say he's probably suffered enough.

There's plenty of BigFooty nuff nuffs who seem to think the above isn't sufficient, and won't be satisfied until he's actually dead and buried.

He was a fantastic player who was courageous and got everything out of himself, he saw the highest of highs as a player, and the lowest of lows as a coach. I can't think of too many people better equipped to provide guidance to young AFL players in a part-time role to help develop their leadership.
