Training 2022 Training Reports

I'm low key worried he will pull an Ablett at GC if he still wants out. Sounds like he is committed at training though so unlikely
Was thinking about this today, and after seeing his effort on the track live a few times this preseason and the reports I think he does the opposite. Think he has a cracking year, bumps his value up, and then asks for a trade east.
(Be with misso) If trade week rumors were true….

Thanks Jedi - via Cesoir please pass on our appreciation.

Excited to hear about Fyfe, Tabs and Walker. I think all three will have a big season, and fyfe will be in AA and Brownlow form on our way back to a top eight finish.

Well at least we have options in the forward line now.
A position opens up for Benning, there is also a good WA ruck/forward in the 2022 draft too😜
I’m surprised that people don’t get the butter reference with Lobster?

It’s pretty strange that the Mature guys at Freo are the ones that will be cut first.
I think guys like Walker offer so much more than players like Acres, Blakely and even Colyer.
Good depth, but competition for spots will be at a premium.
Will be some good players at Peel this year, exciting times ahead with plenty having something to prove.

Optimistic thinking we will have players available for Peel

Whether that be hubbing in Melbourne, Covid illness or injuries

I think all of them were known anyway, the only important part in that article is that STURT IS BACK IN MAIN TRAINING!!!!
McArdle + the editors at the West when discussing what the story should look like

Walker is one of the most exciting prospects on the list. His end of year form, was one of the bright spots of the season. If Clark is a lock in the backline, Walker may have to play wing as I think they want Young in the back half to set up play. Walker should be B22 going on last seasons form. I am hoping we don't go conservative with selection this season. Players like Acres and Blakely shouldn't get a look in before Walker. Even if we have to shuffle the team around to get him into the 22.

Walker may have to play wing and rotate through half back.

Walker
Hughes
Wilson
Young
Clarke
Chapman
Logue
Ryan

This has been discussed in the B22 thread, however, it is probably going to be the most interesting ongoing story line of the season.

I don't think you can just put a young player like Walker on the wing and expect him to be successful, plus I am not confident that he should be ahead of the likes of Henry or Frederick for that opportunity. In the same group maybe, but at least they have been trialled on the wing.

Clark is a better fit for wing which is why I want Walker at back

I agree. My thought was more about fitting him in the team with a stacked... like Jacked backline.

Looking at that list, I think Hughes and Wilson are going to struggle to get a lot of games this year.
My personal preference would be to move Young onto a wing, I’d love to see those laser like passes going inside 50, he’s a great reader of the play and is good overhead, the only question is does he have the tank yet.

Yeah, you can see why Wilson only got a one year deal. But it makes it interesting that Hughes got a three year deal. In a year or so will he be the new Blakely? The 23rd man who we may want to move on but who still has a contract?

If Walker isn't training fully now, in his second-ish preseason and if he is able to run out games on the wing we need to get that boy making babies because he is a genetic freak.

I'd play Hughes in the middle before Logue, by a long way, and the same forward of the ball. I think Ethan could be a wrecking ball on the wing or starting at the stoppages to deny an opponent a chance at it.

Wilson and Western must go to the same gym, as neither of them seem to put any muscle definition on.

Both might be playing a lot at Peel this year.

It's all to do with genetics mate., some people just arnt made that way, although the strength is more than likely still there.

Correct. Plus there's never been a direct correlation between muscle size and definition equalling good footballer. It's a very, very common preseason assumption that's proven incorrect like every single year.

Joel Western turned 19 literally 3 months ago. To say your comment is a bit harsh is an understatement

Without preamble...

Training Report

Today's training was really enjoyable to watch despite the windy conditions making it tricky to hit targets.

Most of training involved 10 minute match simulation with some half court drills in-between sims.

Before detailing the sims and rehab group I feel embarrassed by a few spectators (including some BF posters) ignoring Freo Dockers club orders to not enter areas that have been fenced and sign posted as no public access. They ignore these signs even when officials ask them to clear the area. Once the officials left they walked back in and one of them pulled the finger as they re entered. The club are only following state protocols due to covid regulations.

Rant finished.

Switta looks the quickest and most dangerous small forward today. He adds real x factor in front of goal.
Young is still the best kick out of defence and looks really strong. He's maturing quickly.
On a real positive Tabs, Fyfe and Walker are upping their training. Fyfe doing some skills training with others. Tabs and Walker involved in some full match sim drills. Walker looks terrific. Both he and Tabs don't look to be carrying any injuries and not sure why they aren't in full training.

Mundy is running strongly. Amiss, I'm not sure will take part in training. Maybe there has been some regression in his rehabilitation.

Tracey is on light duties.

The West report on training but paint a very negative picture to get people to react to it. I watch them watch on. They hardly even pay attention.

I feel like I'm repeating myself from previous training sessions so I'll leave it at that. I'm back to work on Thursday so this will be my last report. Cesoir can lock me away until next year. And yes WaywardSonSon I listen to Non Phixion.

Peace

Great work here. Thanks for the effort JMT. Walker and Frederick really are the unknowns in terms of what they could do next season. Both are better than they think they are currently if that makes sense. In training they both have an ability to get way clear of an opponent in short sprinting when they have the ball. If they realise how free they get and then slow down a bit before delivering the ball both could be huge improvers. Switta and Sturt could be huge at improving forward pressure another weakness from last year.

Great player example would be James Hird.

Western is definitely building definition. Are you sure you're not viewing old photographs of him, eg. when he was just drafted to the club?
