Well it wasn’t pick 2 at the time. Likely to be around 10. In hindsight we would have traded it this year for a 2022 1st round selection.
So hopefully McCrae, Poulter etc develop well.

It helped that GWS didn't select him. It actually really made the draft for us. Allowed us to add Draper and another couple of speedy midfielders at 49 and 52. Wouldn't have had any of those selections if a bid came earlier.
No doubt G Wright taking over has been significant. Getting rid of Treloar, Stephenson and Phillips at the time also saved us about $1.5m in cap space (even after the Treloar contribution). So that's worth something and will come in handy over the next couple of years.
Seriously though Pies can't lose from here with JDG.

Why not? He can get 30 touches in midfield and kick 6 goals up forward. Not many else can do that if any. Put it together more consistently and strike a better balance eg 25 touch/3 goal games and you have a extremely damaging player. It’s not a far fetched proposition.

I can see the talent he has but I still think it’s extremely far fetched. Has he even been All Australian despite his obvious talent? It’s the same as Michael Walters who incidentally has also got a 30 and 6 to his name but never really been in the conversation as best player at Freo, let alone the comp. No club was prepared to pay top dollar for JDG when he was shopping himself around as a million dollar man. He’s got some serious ground to make up on the top players who perform consistently IMO.
