Male circumcision involves cutting off the foreskin (prepuce). Female circumcision usually involves not only cutting off the female equivalent (clitoral hood) but also the external part (glans) of the clitoris.

If they were equivalent, male circumcision would be the removal of both the foreskin and the head of the penis.
