To be honest those were my thoughts, if any cricketer of his generation was going early it was him. Parties, booze, smokes, food, drugs, Shane lived it up, but certainly tone deaf to say that kind of thing in the media on the day he passed.

He has a solid point on the yo yo dieting to be fair but yes you wouldn't think someone would say it on the #1 Breakfast show in Australia the day of his passing. Figures show your 117% more likely to have a heart attack if you yo yo your weight throughout your life.

Heh, my grandfather drank and smoked heavily and lived until he was almost 90. He also had a penchant for chasing animals with pitchforks, so you can guess what sort of bloke he was.

Not a nice thing to say about one's grandfather, I know, but I can't help but think about the tragic irony that someone like that would live to a ripe old age, while somebody who contributed so much to the world passed well before his time.

Twelve hours later, and I’m still asking the same question. WTF?

Can’t remember who said it (probably on Twitter), but losing a childhood hero and then a contemporary hero in the space of 24 hours is a one-two punch that has hit many people, myself included.

The solace I’m taking though is that, off the back of a two year period which has shaken and divided society (and continues to do so), our common outpouring of grief is a bittersweet balm that seems to be reuniting us. Shane’s final gift to us.

I’m gonna hug the sh*t out of the next Eagles fan I see.

This about sums it up. I was catching up with a few mates last night, ready to call it a night and go home and pass out around 11pm. Was still awake, and just as shocked, 5 hours later.

I read the news, looked up to the one other mate who was into cricket, and could tell from his expression he already knew. We practically sat there in stunned silence, while our other mates were none the wiser, until another mate got the news alert and announced it.

Easily one of the most surreal celebrity deaths I can recall, and as awful as it sounds, it threw me off more than the passing of some of my relatives, which I was at least prepared for. Never thought that just a month after this summer's cricket that I'd be devastated we wouldn't be hearing Warne on commentary anymore.

I just can’t believe it - I had a sleep in this morning and only woke up at 940 and saw the news - I just can’t believe it Shane Warne my first hero dead - my parents were telling me how I cried and cried about getting Nike earring when I was 5 because I wanted to be like him.

Growing up watching Warne and McGrath was an honour cricket hasn’t been the same to me since they retired - 2005 ashes was the peak he was just beyond special with the ball but also the bat in that series as well.

I Must admit haven’t really cared for his commentary the last few years and I feel a little sad I felt that way - but I’m so in shock that he passed way I really thought he would be commentating for another 30 years.

I’m 32 and I cried a little earlier - this has really shocked me - life is so fragile.
