How did you know?
Have you not listened to Dwayne call our games or heard him interview any of our academy players? He 100% has an agenda against the northern academies.

In his calls its always Swans academy player eg: Gulden from Swans academy kicks down the line. Every. Single. Time
And in his interviews he always asks the academy guys about the academies.

Just listened to interview, great talk by Dawson. Didn't give Dwayne the answer he was fishing for.

Here is the Dawson interview

I agree Ticky. He does emphasize that players are from the academies in his calls. This is a blatant bias with underlying intentions.
Melbourne clubs and to some extent WA and SA have a natural advantage of the go home factor. Academies balance that out.
Other clubs have lots of father sons like Collingwood and Geelong. But that is not seen as something that should be removed because it is a traditional Melbourne club and an institution. Northern academies are not an institution.
I envisage that clubs like Sydney will be weaned off academies in 20 years entirely because we will be developing that many players and putting them into local competitions, which will be stronger as a result, that it will not be necessary. When Tasmania and Northern Territory get their teams up and running they will need academy advantage for a few generations until their local competitions are stronger.

Still amazes me that we have to defend this at all.

After losing Dawson, Hewett and a year before we came within a bee’s dick of losing Papley purely based on family.

Then there’s a feeding frenzy for Logan just a year after he’s been with us and everyone talking of him going home. Whether it happens or not it’s a huge distraction.

We’re so disadvantaged being in NSW and especially Sydney. Not only do we have to fight off homesickness but also the cost of living that is even higher these days.

We bloody deserve this academy we built and I’m so proud to see a group of NSW kids running around and making a name for themselves as Swans. In the late 90’s-early 2000’s I never imagined seeing something like what we have now. We finally get to have the unity of those Victorian teams that whinge so much about anything that goes our way until it’s taken from us.

A flag for this team would be the biggest FU to the league that I can imagine and it would be glorious!

Its BS Melbourne based clubs don't target each other players instead they all chase players from interstate teams. You would think it be much easier to target a player already living in same city but it never happens only time Melb based teams trade players is when there shopping them around and not wanted they don't lose players they want keep to other Melb based teams.

watched a few games of Sydney Academy this pre-season, i have been really impressed by Luke Giacometti who is a goal kicking midfielder with good size, i believe the commentators said he was 186cm, William Edwards looks like a decent KPD also, i want to see more of him play but he has all the tools to be a good KPD and Caleb May looked like an interesting prospect as a ruck, from your u17 team James Lugsdin has been good as a tough mid(all of this is from my PoV as a neutral observer).

I agree with all this. But I do think the bidding system needs to be tightened up a bit for both the Academy and F/S.

I think its all played out reasonably fairly so far, if you look at what we have got from the academy vs what we have lost to home sickness + the annual feeding frenzy on GWS and Gold Coast that we have never been able to get involved in.

But it's going to become more of an issue as the Academy develops.

I dunno what the exact solution is but you shouldn't be able to match really high bids with a bunch of picks in the 30s and 40s.

And if we ever get to the point where there is 10 kids from NSW going in the draft each year, I would have no issue with removing the bidding system completely.

Attempted to watch the live coverage but technical issues made the first qtr unwatchable. Kevin Sheedy was offering insights alongside the commentator. Swans boys he mentioned he liked the look of Josh Nicholls and Caiden Cleary. Kirk had a solid game and was best for Swans. Overall a very poor outing for the boys and have a lot of work to do to be competitive against the better Melbourne sides.

usually you guys play the NAB League teams without half their teams when they go play for the Private Schools, so these are the results of playing full strength NAB League teams in the first 4 rounds of the year, so beating them is a much greater achievement imo.

And this is what they don't get. A full team of possible selections for the draft vs 1 Northern academy player every 2nd year or so.

The Knights will have 3 maybe 4 possible draft selections. This year they do not look as strong as they were last year. Knights were at full strength as no players missing due to schoolboy footy, however their pre season is impacted due to girls footy and coaches running both both programs. Wouldn’t read too much in Rnd 1 NAB footy.

Swans were stronger in 2019 when they last had a real crack at the NAB League teams, the Covid issues may have set them back a little with no real competitive footy v strongervstates.

Every time watched Cleary he has looked a cut above.

Kirk has been consistent but not at a high level. Does love a contest though
