'But what people did not know was that police had a very strong lead that they were chasing.

A crucial mistake by the sniper meant police were able to gather evidence and build a case against him.

The killer, who cannot be identified, had taken his rifle to a licensed armourer in January and asked for the barrel to be replaced.

He then collected the rifle less than one week later, the West Australian Supreme Court was told this week.

The following month, police attended the armourer’s premises and seized the rifle barrel.

Forensic testing confirmed projectiles fired from it were consistent with the bullet removed from Mr Chapman.

Investigators further established that the man was at the motorplex at the time of the shooting and specifically at the location from where the shot was fired.

He was identified as a suspect and placed under surveillance, the court was told.'

Worth a read in full.

I'm no reputable hitman but this is dumber than dumb.

Surely you figure out how to 'safely' dispose of a murder weapon prior to conducting a murder, or use an unlicensed (illegal) firearm.

His presence on the net alone should have been a worry to any potential clients.

Wonder if we will even find out what the reasons for the appeal?

'“We are trying to suggest that the sentence was excessive but I can’t go into the reasons for (the appeal).”'

'He said up to the point of the murder, his client was “leading an exemplary life”'

'Outside court on Wednesday, Mr Manera said his client was “doing remarkably well, all things considered”.
“Bearing in mind the length of the sentence and the fairly isolated conditions he is living in,” he said.'

'In sentencing the sniper to a fixed term, Justice Stephen Hall said had the offender not promised to testify against Pye in future, he would have sentenced him to life with at least 30 years.'

I wonder if he's planned to testify against other people and/or other things?

It would account for both the appeal and the attempts at secrecy.

Heavily-tattooed bikie Dayne Brajkovich has been booted out of the Hells Angels motorcycle club but it’s unlikely he will be with his own company for long, according to Up Late host Ben Harvey.

Harvey, who as The West Australian’s chief crime reporter has covered many of the bikie’s exploits, told how Brajkovich would likely join another gang - and it would only take “one idiot” to spark a turf war.

Brajkovich — a long-time member of the club — was forced out of the gang last week following a major dispute with other senior members.

It is rumoured the 42-year-old was unhappy with some of the Hells Angels mixing with bikies from other gangs at parties.

Also selling his $900.000 house, must be big money in driving a Demolition truck to be able to afford this?

Unfoirtunately $900,000 isn't an expensive house any more and you don't need a big income to buy one. Heaps of truck drivers could afford it (I'm not for one second suggesting his primary source of income is driving a truck).

'Roebourne Police officer-in-charge Senior Sergeant Mark Barratt said officers were conducting a coronial investigation into the sudden death and it was not being treated as suspicious.

WorkSafe Commissioner Darren Kavanagh said information received indicated the person may have died of natural causes.'

Paywalled - probably heart issues from steroids and the covid vacination.

Lots of arrests still happening in WA

And, why Ben Harvey thinks Troy Mercanti should start an Only fans account: (very funny indeed) - thanks Z

David Pye, 40, who is accused or ordering the sniper-style killing of Rebels boss Nick Martin as he sat watching drag races at Kwinana Motorplex, is ordered to stand trial on charges of murder.

Did we miss the Comancheros link? Martin's killer did a deal.

David James Pye, a member of the Comancheros bikie gang, entered not guilty pleas to all the charges against him when he appeared in the Stirling Gardens Magistrates court today via video link from prison.

He is accused of paying a former soldier $300,000 to murder Martin as he was watching drag races at the Kwinana Motorplex in December 2020.

Mr Pye is also alleged to have offered money to the shooter, whose identity is suppressed, to murder a woman in her 30s, and a member of another bikie gang who lived overseas.

He (Martin's killer) avoided being given a life sentence because he agreed to testify against Mr Pye.

They would want more than '' he was the guy who paid me''

If it turns out this sniper had no prior connections/association to bikies, is it too out there to think he might have been pegged and hired to do the job off social media? That organisation, Shadows of Hope profiled him over facebook in March 2020.

Haha almost looks that way.... they probably seen him tagged in the picture of the tekkla rifle and thought "that'll do the job"

I'll bet my left nut its the murder weapon, and he's been tagged on social media with it.

Sounding like a massive ego

omg ha haaaaaa

Pye’s trial is shaping as one of the most explosive court cases in years.

Police believe Pye first contacted the man who would go on to shoot Martin via social media, with the pair then communicating on an encrypted mobile phone app.

'The assassin, who served in the Australian Army before joining “combat charity” Shadows of Hope, began an intelligence operation on Martin that included flying a drone over his home.'

Any ideas what the drone was for?
