sorry if this has been posted but this came on my timeline

That was from when he was at geelongšŸ˜‚ funny how people have started just posting random pictures of eagles players at nightclubs and trying to say that there were from the last couple of weeks

From what i've heard we now only have 5 listed players who haven't had Covid.

Rotham had every right to go out as long as he didn't make a dick of himself or hamper his recovery. Nelson on the other hand was a silly move, but shit he's a mid 20's guy and he's just been absolutely flogged on field.

TBH i'm more interested that they went with Knights instead of Schofield as senior coach this week.

How is it an issue for our players and not the Richmond ones?

And Rotham was as precisely zero risk.
Because we're struggling to put 22 guys on the field most weeks and any reasonable person would know that going clubbing at the moment puts you at a fairly high risk of getting covid which will put you (and whoever you infect at the club) out of next weeks game?

In Knight's presser he said it was decided before the start of the season that he'd coach if Simmo couldn't due to covid.

I guess this was due to him previously being a senior coach.

Rothams only playing because we have no choice.
Piss poor by the Club.

1. Could have played 4 others before Rotham.
2. Poor rule in the first place, no wonder blokes are breaking it. You ask players to "buy-in" and sack them if they don't. Forcing people to do/not do what you want just results in them revolting.
3. Club threatening that they "put their list spot in jeopardy" means SFA unless they act upon it.
4. According to Nelson (on the Coast to Coast podcast) we picked him up because he was a bit of campaigner. You reap what you sow.
5. Nelson should be gone at year's end on form alone at his age and Rotham probably has one more year to prove himself at most.

I get people being unhappy with Nelson's clubbing, but I don't get the constant pot shots at his on-field work this year.

I actually think he's put in more decent performances than poor, and played his role(s) better than most.

He's no star. But he isn't the total spud some describe him as constantly.

Schumacher should come in for Rotham today. If he was specifically told not to go to nightclubs and he went to a nightclub, he should be suspended straight away. Schumacher’s a similar type player, in Brisbane and ready to play.

Seems like he's deflecting to take the heat off the complete failure of the club at all levels at the moment. Let's throw a couple of fringe players under the bus to take the heat. Great leadership.

Their actions were very poor but could easily be dealt with in-house without throwing them in the stockades.

I can think of a lot of players with 'compromised futures' due to poor on-field performance that aren't being called out publicly because they are senior players. Very weak, in my opinion.

I'm actually starting to believe Caro's report from a couple months ago about the AFL being furious at West Coast and the players over not taking COVID serious enough. On full display, right there.

Selfish and brainless are only a couple of words to describe it.
That's a bit of a stretch.
A couple have disregared the covid rules in round 8.

Like Ryan Daniels quoted, " 80 percent of the Eastern states place had had covid".

It's our turn now.

It's our injury list which is really hurting us.

I know the club is in a shambles and I’ve got in a few kicks while they’re down myself, but they really can’t win can they.

Having been accused of being too soft and letting players get too comfortable cashing their paychecks, the coach and CEO come out strongly in this instance and get accused of throwing fringe players under the bus.

Nah, he is utter garbage.. hough has played more good games this year than nelson has in a career and after 8 years he is still a below average fringe player..

80% is a BF myth - and who listens to journos.

The reality is that percentage is somewhat irrelevant as the impact of COVID is a unique and individual outcome. It ranges for asymptomatic to death. I may have had it myself?

Ryan Daniels is one of few journos I do listen to.

Regardless, up until the nightclub incident, the club seemed to have doing everything it could.

Everyone loves a pile on I guess.

I think it's more that Nelson/Rotham are at career crossroads and fighting for their futures. The last thing you would want or expect from players in that position is to behave recklessly or in a manner that would further jeopardise their careers.

I'm not a Nelson hater and quite like some of his qualities, but he's a player that has to be playing at 100% to be in the team - like Hutchy before him. He doesn't have the tools to add something different to our backline mix and really I can only see him continuing if he gets better at and persists as a defensive midfielder.

Rotham on the other hand ostensibly does has the tools, but he rarely uses them and his actual defending has gone downhill rapidly.

Bottom line is that there has been a directive not to go clubbing and the club is on its knees due to poor availability. If then as a fringe player fighting for a spot you still decide to go clubbing, your future has to be in question.

Agree with this, but a short suspension should be the end of the matter. Talk of compromising their futures is way OTT.

Shows signs that internally the club is feeling the pressure and is hyper sensitive to criticism

What Nelson and Rotham did was wrong particularly since Nisbett said players had been told nightclubs were off limits. So in that regard they should both be disciplined, however the rhetoric is OTT. Nisbett said he was disgusted which given some of the stuff he’s dealt with over the years I wouldn’t have this indiscretion in the top 100

I have no issue with the club not suspending Rotham for this game as I feel the AFL would not be happy with us selecting a top up player whilst we have a fully fit listed player in the stands

For a club that traditionally, especially under Simpson, has been reticent to shame players publicly this is a significant departure.

Can only ponder as to why

Do you actually expect the club to delist either of these players when it comes to the pointy end of the year? I don't. And then it becomes a case of beating your chest in the media, while not following through behind closed doors. Personally, I'd much prefer it things operated the other way around.

I'd be surprised if Nelson is there next year.
