Charles rocking up to the commons in full military and scrambled egg?

Tone deaf?

Just adopt the Irish model. I mean, Ireland is our history and heritage and all those other things that are oh so important to the Monarchists. All those people with no Irish ancestry or history or heritage are more than welcome to come along for the ride too. We might even end up with a HOS who isn't merely a half-wit in fancy dress!

What should Charles be wearing?

What did you think in 2019 when the Queen was in also in full regalia? (see below)

The Queen traditionally wears the Imperial State Crown and the Robe of State. Charles was representing his mother as the heir to the throne and delivered her speech which is actually written by the government and contains an outline of its policies and proposed legislation for the new parliamentary session.

Why is it being brought up now? The State opening of Parliament happens every year with the monarch present, usually in full regalia. This year it's an issue?
Well I guess it just goes to highlight that we're going to have the bloke in fancy dress foisted upon us in what is likely to be the very near future. Good time to start making it an issue I reckon. Never too late.

Yep. That's what happens in a constitutional monarchy. He's already the most well trained heir to the throne to take on the role of constitutional monarch ever, so should do a good job.

Hmm. Will it be Charles III or George VII?

Then William V.

Well we'd bloody well better hope he's up to the job, because we don't get a say in it. It really is a ridiculous situation and can only be defended by claiming that no Australian is up to the job, which is obviously nonsense.

Republic - Meh.

Get rid of the bloodline monarchy though, consign royalty to the dustbin of history permanently, it is an abhorrent anachronism.

There’s the implication the monarchy will modernise itself.

Charles makes noises in this light, but next thing he’s full pomp and circumstance

Modernising the monarchy doesn't mean there still can't be pomp and ceremony when the occasion calls for it. History and tradition in this manner is one of its' strengths. No one does it better than the British.

As we'll see in the next few years with the Queen's funeral and Charles' coronation.

Until something better comes along, the British tradition works well. If it aint broke don't fix it. History rules!
It is broken, we're a modern country with a system that prevents an Australian being Head of State, which is of course ridiculous. How do all those other countries manage to to have one of their own as HoS if it's too risky for us to even dare contemplate?

The monarch's a pretty cheap head of state for Oz. WA should become a republic though.
