Two crime families who have waged a murderous underworld battle on Sydney's streets used encrypted phone apps to advertise killings and spark "bidding wars" from hit men, police say.

  • Almost 300 charges were laid as part of Operation Hawk crackdown
  • Raids and searches uncovered evidence to unravel a gangland war
  • Young men are lured into the underworld with "cash and rap music", police say
NSW State Crime Commander Stuart Smith said a blitz on the lower levels of the Hamzy and Alameddine networks had uncovered a raft of evidence about how they have operated at arm's length from police

Since Thursday morning, Operation Hawk has targeted hundreds of people at the "bottom of the food chain" in the crews, and also visited people linked to outlaw motorcycle gang the Comancheros.

Assistant Commissioner Smith said the directive for Operation Hawk was to "take the gloves off".

It was carried out with "surgical" precision and targeted 310 individuals who allegedly took part in drug and weapon supply, violence and car thefts, he said.

"I will not rule out further arrests and you will not see it coming," he said.

People become gangsters cause of rap music? Wtf?

'A gang called OneFour is understood to be a subgroup of the broader Mount Druitt and outer-western suburbs gang, which formerly had ties to a drill rap group of the same name.

Drill rap, which OneFour was credited with starting in Australia, has violent and lyrically confronting elements, and in the UK is synonymous with so-called “postcode wars”.

The OneFour music group has distanced itself from the gang, which had originally been known as NF14 and was part of the Mounty County coalition.

It has a long-running feud with the Alameddine gang, with alleged member Ali ‘Ay Huncho’ Younes referencing OneFour in his recent song, Putrid Sh**.
Younes was released on bail, awaiting a number of charges, last month. The most serious being them participating in the Alameddine crime network.

The network has clashed with rival Hamzy clans in Sydney since 2020 with seven men being shot dead in gang-related violence.'

The brother of executed underworld figure Walid 'Wally' Ahmad will remain behind bars after being charged with murder over the fatal shooting of Safwan Charbaji in Sydney's south-west.

Mahmoud 'Brownie' Ahmad, 34, was arrested by homicide detectives as he arrived at Sydney International Airport on a flight from Doha about 7:40pm last night.

He was taken to Mascot Police Station where he was charged with murder over the fatal shooting of Safwan Charbaji, 32, outside a smash repair business at Condell Park on April 9 last year.

Mr Charbaji was shot during a heated argument between two groups of men outside the A Team Bodyworks shop on Ilma Street, investigators have said.

Another 35-year-old man was seriously injured when he was shot in the face.

Mr Charbaji was driven to Bankstown Hospital by his brother-in-law but died of his injuries.

Reports of a shooting on Knox Street, Belmore were made to emergency services at about 4am on Saturday.

Seems to me there's too many handguns on the streets

Same area, same middle eastern influence, same M.O. of shot at home torched car not far away, amazingly close to Auburn shooting in time frame and coincidentally the night after the funeral of the brother from that shooting.

Don't need to be Sherlock Holmes to know what has happened here.
