What were the Pies stats for

Ruck Contests (Hitouts / To Advantage) ? pls

81% game time is impressive. What about Gardner though with 95% and he came off with an injury for 6 minutes.

Gardner frequently has 98-100% game time. It really does help having a key defender that has a big enough tank that they don't need to come off to rest for a couple of minutes a quarter.

You sure? McComb played his best ever AFL game last week and he copped heaps.
hugh laurie good point GIF

Had we given Lippa more of an opportunity last year, of course he would have stayed. He was a Bulldogs supporter growing up.

Lipiniski played almost the entire first half of the season. Besides, he is completely a different proposition for given his contract, salary and game time expectations.

I'm no fan of McComb, but it's just silly to think it's as simple as Lipinski out McComb in.

Yep.

So was the one against De Goey. He tried to restrain himself and we still got the 50.

Blight on the game, should only be for abuse of umpires.
Yes, that's exactly how it should be interpreted. The umpires need to be given discretion and allow players to at least air their frustration with themselves.
And in a few months when the dust has settled and nobody's looking they will quietly make that change without having to acknowledge they f'd up.

It means there will always be a degree of interpretation: at what point is the line crossed that deserves a 50? That will mean people will always complain if it goes against their side, just as they do with any free kick, and yes there will always be an occasional howler.

But not the regular travesties like those we saw tonight. I thought there was perhaps a case against Buku but it was always going to be a really soft 50 that does a disservice to our game. The call against de Goey was even worse IMO.

5 and 1 with Sweet now, everytime the midfield gets a ruckman that can half the contest they dominate but they play most games with an arm tied behind their back.

Khamis is going to be a lot more than a trial forward, seeing his leap and leading patterns live he'll be very tough match up with a couple of genuine key forwards down there as well.

Just a personal opinion, I think it’s lame.

Hate it when others (Pies with Toovey, Carlton with Ang Christou back in the day) do it too.

Anyway.

Good win tonight, maybe there’s some life in our season.
Melbourne's Yze too.

If that's all he revealed, nothing to worry about. Any simpleton coach should be watching our game vision back and writing stuff like that down before playing us anyway
And CD would feed them all that stuff too.

Ruck Contests (Hitouts / To Advantage)
58 - Cameron (33 / 9)
22 - Begg (22 / 5)
5 - Mihocek (0 / 0)
Begg won every single ruck contest he was involved in? Didn’t look like that live. Hitout stats are such a gamble, at least 50% of them in game should go to no one or “no contest” but always get credited one way or another

Yeah sorry that's a typo, Begg's numbers were actually...

Nah those changes are outer limits surely
Playing mcNeil, mcComb or Scot ahead of West is not an assessment in the best interests of the team

Playing Old Man Martin ahead of Sweet is not in the best interests of the team. We don't need a winning Ruckman we just need someone who can compete. Sweets performance in Ruck contests was just that and no more but it is light years ahead of Martin and a reasonable margin ahead of English. Wait, English maybe better around the ground but his Ruckwork is ordinary. Give Sweet a dozen continuous games and just see the difference it will make to our midfield.

Sweet was serviceable tonight but Darcy Cameron is in the lower rungs of rucks in the competition if playing as the #1.

Sweet has been found out by Rhys Stanley, Tom Campbell and worse at VFL level so I agree your call on being found out by Witts is more likely than not*. I suspect those rolling their eyes at Bevo after tonight have not watched any VFL where Martin was much much better.

* Obviously we all hope not. In the same way I hope McComb isn’t about to butcher his kick whenever he gets the pill but I predict he will.
For heavens sake Martin is on life support. Sweet is young and desperately needs games. You can hear Martin's hips scrapping in the stands. Martin is still technically a superior Ruckman but his second efforts and physical presence following the initial contest is no longer possible. By the third and last quarters he is done. Martin will not get better but worse - that's age - nothing more.

After last years Grand final it is mindless to persist with Martin - he should be there only as the last resort - this season - when he should be replaced with 2 additional ruckman.
