At National level I don't see the problem.

Yeah this. Would like to see it in any sport at national level where the players are well compensated in mens at their club level in sports like football, basketball and baseball. See no harm in evening up the pays.

That's the women's team that deserves it the most. They sell out stadiums as much as the mens don't they?

Reckon Matildas here would do reasonably similar so wonder if this will prompt similar conversations.

Don't know if that's true at the international level.

Playing for/representing your country should be the same no matter what gender.

The men will also generally still make more in endorsements within that country as well. So the national body is already helping with exposure, the facilities and stadiums that they're playing in have been paid for with tax payer money so really shouldn't matter that its even for match payments. The men should in most cases be happy to represent the country no matter what.

Regardless of gender pay should be linked to how much revenue the team/matches brings in.

How does that logic work? National sporting bodies don't exactly make their money purely from crowds, they get government funding etc.

Should see the USWNT paid less or receive a lesser increase given their legal dispute a year or two ago was thrown out in court as the judge found they were better off than the men with the CBA with US Soccer.

Received less in match payments etc but got fringe extras the men didn’t like insurance and paid maternity leave among other things.

The men would already have insurance through club football though wouldn't they? I'd say they're more likely to have the existing insurance than the women are.

As for paid maternity, all women should have that in any line of work. Calling that a 'fringe extra' seems odd. That should just be a given.

Government funding is to cover the cost of running the sport and infrastructure to support it.

It shouldn't come into the equation at all as far as pay goes.

Not to mention that the introduction of paid paternity leave for male footballers is entirely possible too.
