Daniels did a hammy so no surprises with that and not a small one either 5-7 weeks so basically he will miss the entire season
Callaghan 2 weeks with a shoulder
Not sure on Lloyd as I thought he may be ready to come back after the bye but unlikely if he is listed at 3-4 weeks and with how much he has missed it could be 2-3 weeks of games in the reserves

It does point to the adequacy of the fitness staff that the re-occurence of soft tissue injuries constantly happening and it is not just over 1 season it has been multiple seasons with the same players re-injuring the same muscle
If the club wants to improve they really need to look at the budget and what they are paying so called professionals for not doing their job

FMD.

I'd like to think that we'd throw some kids in to have a run - Fahey or Wehr for Finn Callaghan - rather than just go back to the same old guys like MdB etc.

May as well get something useful out of this trainwreck of a season.

And who was it that pooh-poohed me for wanting to pick up a small forward in the MSD, citing that Stone & Daniels were almost back?

Still no soft tissue injuries for Adelaide (Darren Burgess), Brisbane or Sydney. Melbourne with Harmes perhaps their first hammy for the year.

Will the likes of Vince Rugari, Andrew Wu or anyone else ever grill the coach (as primary club spokesman) on this? Only been happening for 5 years.

Is it possibile Whitfield and Haynes have been injured/sick this whole time and Leon has been playing them knowing they're only at 60%(?) because he was under so much pressure and now with no pressure on Spike he can afford to sit them and give them a few weeks to recover?

Current injury list:

  • Whitfield
  • Stone
  • Haynes
  • Daniels
  • Buckley
  • Davis
  • Callaghan
  • Hopper
  • Lloyd

Leon never had a hope with the S & C staff at his disposal. Although perhaps the HC does have some say in the hiring/firing of these people.

The CEO has always dodged accountability for S&C.

He tried to blame shift the blame to Wayne Campbell back in the day, but that’s been proven a complete fiction by more of the same in subsequent years.

Imagine what we could have achieved in 2017-19 if it have been professionally and competently resolved.

After consulting specialists today, top-rated Canberra draftee Josh Fahey will require a shoulder reconstruction after dislocating his left shoulder during Sunday’s VFL match. GIANTS Head of Medical James Rahme said: “Josh injured his shoulder during a football incident in the game on Sunday. He was ruled out of the game and scans on Monday showed that he’ll require a shoulder reconstruction. He'll go in for surgery next week. It’s disappointing for Josh that he’ll miss the rest of the season but he’ll learn a lot from the rehab process and will be in a really good position to attack the next pre-season.”

Lachie Whitfield (ankle) will undergo a fitness test ahead of Saturday’s clash with the Brisbane Lions at the Gabba, while Tim Taranto remains out for another week with a back injury. Whitfield will be put through his paces at main training on Thursday to assess his availability.

Lachie Ash, Braydon Preuss and Nick Haynes missed last week’s match with illness but are expected to be available.

quite possibly.
not necessary the pressure thing, but they certainly look like they have been carrying injuries.

To me, judging from what I can tell from the character of Whitfield and Haynes they would have been putting their hand up and playing sore to try and help Leon keep his job

Yeah very possible but also wouldn't be surprised if there was some pressure on them to play through injury, that's less a reflection on Leon and the Giants but more so professional sport and it's almost a requirement to be able to play through injury. Like all things it's probably a mixture of both them putting their hand up knowing they're not a 100% and they may be facing some pressure.

Not too much talk about Jacob Hopper.
Played hurt in Round 1, sent for surgery and still 4-6 weeks away.
Plenty of talk about trading him. I thought he was our best player in 2021 and he’s been terribly missed this year.

Still a fairly extensive list, although a few tests, and an extra week for players to recover. Hopefully it will be shorter in another week.

How many are best 22 in this team? Whitfield, Taranto, Hopper, Lloyd, Daniels, Buckley, Davis?, Hill? That is a lot of good players missing. I have grave fears about what is going to happen v North after the bye. They typically play very well against the Giants. Although it could guarantee us of a bottom 5 finish

Given it is the bye and then North, you'd think all of the below would be available

Callaghan
Whitfield
Taranto
Ward

with Lloyd and Davis being a chance.

Plenty that I'd happily see drop out.
Wehr, Brander, MDB and Bobby would come out I imagine if all 4 are fit. Keefe out for Phil, not sue how Lloyd fits in with Peatlings emergence, maybe Riccardi comes out for Lloyd but think I'd ride with Riccardi for a bit longer outside of his first few games in 2020 when he exploded I think this is the best footy he's played.

Keefe is really a hinderance in attack, it breaks down when it gets to him (Idun is a bit the same, but at least he is offering plenty in defence)

Taranto a couple of weeks
Callaghan a month with his foot issue
Aleer out with a calf

Whitfield and Ward tests for this week

MDB and XOH likely stay in this weekend, hopefully Brander gets a run in the reserves
