2. If he decided to get his first jab today, his second jab wouldn't come till August-ish - would be potentially available for finals. Doubt we'd consider that to be worth it.

As for keeping him on the list for next year... Dunno. But I'd think the club has probably moved on.

Pretty sure Jack Darling only got his first jab and was able to train and play, with a promise to get his second.

On Footy Classified, they showed a newspaper clip saying Jones wants to play next year and multiple clubs will look at him. If this is the case we should be in his ear to have his jab and if that fails keep him on the list for next year if he does indeed want to play again.

Doesn’t seem fair if another club can pick him up next year and we get nothing.

He is the best key defender in the country currently not playing in the afl. He is loved at the club. We need to get him back if we can. I don't understand the logic of giving up on him. Do we want to win a flag or not?

And, are the COVID rules the same? You can be a teacher in QLD without the jab now. Fairly sure that is a more significant role that KPD in an AFL side.

Jacob Bauer went undrafted last year out of the Swans’ Academy but has piqued the interest of at least six AFL clubs with a blistering start to the SANFL season for North Adelaide.

Bauer has requested an 18-month contract if he is drafted, which would take him through to the end of the 2023 season.

It’s believed both Sydney clubs – the Giants and Swans – Collingwood, Essendon, Richmond and Carlton are all showing interest in the 191cm swingman, who’s kicked 15 goals in five senior games this year.

Don't know anything about the lad, seems a decent size though - a cursory search says 189cm and 88kg.

I don't like that sort of thing, it implies that we rate him as the best player in the draft (at least for our needs) but if he does last till our pick, you have to wonder why.

Carmichael has had a couple of big games this season and I like that he presents with pretty well-rounded stats for a midfielder. 85% disposal efficiency while averaging 24.6 disposals per game. 3 kicks for every handball, a goal per game and around five tackles and five clearances per game.

Seems like he's got the tools. Drafting a midfielder at this point doesn't bode well for Dow, Setterfield and Fogarty.

Moot point most likely. Our first pick is something like #13, and he is highly rated. A few clubs do seemingly have commitment to other players. Adelaide - Turner, WCE have a bloke who played as a top up and was extra good, etc.

Carmichael plays mostly inside mid, burst type, has the profile to play wing and has gained attention through accurate long range goal kicking, like 60 metres long range. Ticks plenty of boxes, throw at the stumps to keep improving or brilliant depth for the twos. Numbers game says we will lose one or more if Dow, Setterfield or Fogarty. All would be on middling contracts which we need to rationalise if there is not room in the top team.

Lauded for his work rate, Carmichael has been able to win the ball at stoppage while working up and back and having a say inside attacking 50. His size and age make him a readymade type, and he has risen to each level he’s played thus far – from country footy, to the nation’s top state league, to representing said league.

In thinking about our ruck situation, does anyone else think that there would be a better ruckman in state leagues around the country than a fit MK?

Always an aerobic beast, only in his early 30s, knows the game plan. If his body is fit and refreshed a 6month contract is a no brainer if we are just looking for cover this year.

I agree, we are one injury off a crisis in both the ruck and key defensive posts. In ruck Pittonet looks a long way off and if Mirkov's injury is going to take a while then we only have TDK and no backup. Mirkov also doesn't look ready and before he was injured was monstered by Tom Campbell, who has been a fringe journeyman ruckman. Mirkov will be good, but needs development time. I also think TDK would be great up forward, especially with Harry injured if he didn't need to ruck, and even when Harry is back as a third tall who chops out in the ruck. I know many don't see the need for rucks but we have a dominant midfield that doesn't really need a dominant ruckman, but needs a good contest. In key defensive posts we only have Weitering and Young. We have no clue whe McGovern and OMac will be coming back and when they do they are injury magnets. Parks and Plowman are undersized, and Marchbank may or may not get on the park. Akuei is a year off being ready. We need one player there. So either we get a player who can play ruck and KPD or we need two players to fill those roles. Carmichael may be great, but we should only take him if we can fill the ruck and KPD roles with one player who can do both.

We will have something like the 13th pick, but could still have access to players we are keen on.

The MSD is not like the National Draft. There isn't as much consensus and needs and list management play a (relatively) bigger part than talent.

In a normal draft, there's no hope the 3rd most talented kid makes it to pick 13. But at the MSD, clubs are picking for needs, for immediate injury cover, selecting long-term project rucks, mature agers etc. Not every team has a pick or wants to use a pick it has.

So the MSD is more strategic and there's a better chance one of our top few targets slide IMO.

In last year's MSD (small sample).... 7 of the 22 selections were rucks. And project ones at that... avg 19yo.

You'd never(-ish) get 7 rucks selected in the top 22 picks of the National Draft.

Just an example of how MSD strategy means other players can 'slide'...
