What would a Dutton Liberal leadership mean for the Liberals and the country?

He will be an effective opposition leader - like Abbott was but on steroids. Great at opposing everything
I can't see an Abbott style of opposition working again. There's no "good" government record to fall back on, invoking memories of the Morrison government won't be quite as stirring as talking up the Howard years, they won't be able to weaponise climate change like Abbott did and the consumption of media has fractured a great deal since in the intervening years. Just how a Dutton opposition goes about mounting a case to be returned to government will be fascinating to watch because it's going to require a something from him as yet unseen throughout his career.

Thats what we all said about abbott.
But even when Abbott was PM, everyone thought Dutton was worse.

It's like Rupert is testing us, about how evil a person he can get over the line. He's got a $1 bet with Kerry Stokes on it. Kerry bet him back that he can get BRS off a war-crime charge and turn him into a TV exec, Trading Places eat your heart out.

The rebranding of Dutton will be hilarious. I wonder if they will paint some eyebrows on him?
Can't wait to see how they polish this turd lol

I fully support Dutton becoming the opposition Leader with Barnacle Joyce as the National Leader.

A dream made in heaven.

it would be like Norf bring back Brad Scott :D

what happens is you have to declare it, but then its reviewed to see how the conflict should be managed

generally there are three options:

1) no influence possible, so conflict is no concern

2) influence is possible, but the conflict can be managed by exclusion of activity

3) influence is possible, but exclusion of activity is impossible

Dutton would have been (2) before. a conflict exists, but in his portfolio he has no influence on childcare

as opposition leader (and PM in waiting if an ALP minority govt fails) that conflict is now unavoidable, as he will have a key say in liberal policies around childcare, compensation, and so on

The suggestion is that Duttons wife has sold the business as a result of his leadership tilt speculation, not the normal process outlined.
The lack of detail of the claimed transaction(s) adds nothing to the claims.

He'll be the crash test dummy while they look for a leader who is acceptable to the electors. He will just say:
  • every Labor proposal or bit of legislation is socialism,
  • all foreign policy initiatives or the normalisation of the relationship with China are "caving in to China",
  • in two weeks it will be "Labor's catastrophic debt and deficit" .
  • any concession to the Greens/Teals on climate will be a "betrayal of the Australian people"

I want Labor to do an "I move the member no longer be heard" once only for the shits and gigs - before that rule, and the Dorothy Dixer rule, are put into the dustbin of history

Obviously he had put his hand up before.

more that if they lost, he'd know that scomo is going, so...

polls were also bad for frydo for months as well (thats been revealed now), so he would have known this too

Who’s playing the Jaime-Lee Curtis role ?.

Well at least there are alternatives outside of the big 2 of ALP and LNP.

Glad the teal group emerged with a few seats.

Again, greens have their small fan base. Although they won't get many seats in this election, they will get a few seats in the senate or lower house
The Greens got 11.76% of the primary Vote
The Nationals got a paltry 3.95%
The Liberal National party of Queensland got 7.88%

The United Australia Party got more primary votes than the Nationals at 4.11%

Barnaby will make the Nats electorally irrelevant in very quick time if he is not rolled.
Voldemort will be distancing himself from the Nats too unless they ditch the drunken adulterer

Rudd's wife made tens of millions of dollars with her business. Was that a conflict of interest?
Not if her business did not profit directly from insider information about legislation being worked on by a spouse, convenient legislative change, Government (taxpayer) support during any type of financial crisis and Government contracts let without tender or even oversight.
