John Winston Howard - what is his legacy?

Mate, that is a look over there post if ever I have seen one.

Rudd/Gillard/Rudd was a shambles although history will almost certainly judge Gillard more favourably than the present.

However, the systematic dismantling of much of the social and fiscal progression brought about by the Hawke/Keating government started with Howard.

We ought to be 30 years more advanced than we are as a society.
Albanese has an advantage that R/G/R never had. While they took over from a tired government and despite Howard losing his own seat he was still popular, his government regarded as a good one which The Liberals were able to use in opposition to their advantage. It's highly unlikely to see being Dutton using the past ten years of government in the same way that Abbott did so successfully.

IF you need to overlook the criticism of the middle class welfare policy of the Howard era & the failure of ALL governments since to address them.

At some point the Government of the day has the opportunity to change what went before them - few address it, & those that do often fail, e.g Abbott/Hockey.

As for history, Morrison will be remembered as an elected PM losing an election.

Paul Keating mentally destroyed John Howard.

Howard’s revenge was to tear down the house that Paul (and Bob) built.

He really is just a vicious little weasel. The most overrated PM we have ever had who set this country back decades.

Some demolition job by Keating - the history of the GST might open your eyes to Keating & reality.

A woeful attempt to excuse the Rudd/Gillard/Rudd/Abbott/Turnbull/Morrison era of Government.
Howard didnt lock that mob in, they were ALL too weak to address the changed economy that Howard left behind.
Albo is not locked in either, does he & Dr Chalmers*have the cohunas or will they stick to finger pointing/blaming as you do Magruder.

* After Labor won the 2007 federal election, Chalmers returned to work for Wayne Swan in the Department of the Treasury, as deputy chief of staff and principal adviser (2007–2010) and then as chief of staff (2010–2013).[3]

Dribble.

More was achieved with Chalmers working for Swan and Charlton advising Rudd than the entirety of The Abbott/Turnbull/Morrison years.

I’m not saying she was a saint. I have big issues with some of her legacy. But she is an exemplar of dignity after public office.

But I suspect I’m conversing with a barracker anyway.
I was going to give you a like for the post but after the last I’ll informed comment it will get a thumbs down 👎

Btw both major parties are near the same and do not act in the interest of the general tax payer

Lol!
Hardly the case! Bob and Paul were and are the most over rated ministers in history!
After Gough signed up to the Lima Declaration, Bob changed the currency to the fiat currency, then changed legislation and started the sell off of Australian assets.

Howard just continued it

How was it ill-informed?

You don’t have to tell me that. I voted Green in both houses.

But anyone who thinks Albanese Labor won’t be a massive improvement on the corruption and lying of the Morrison government is in La La land.

It was quite simply the most dishonest and corrupt government in Australia’s history. Labor’s upcoming anti-corruption body alone, will ensure this government will be streets ahead in integrity.

Pfft, ok you ignoramus.

You’re actually serious, aren’t you?

I’ll give you a tip mate, and this is for free…Medicare and superannuation are two of the most important social and fiscal policies of modern times. Howard and subsequent conservative governments have done nothing but try to dismantle both.

That is before we even go into the defunding of higher education, the gutting of our national broadcaster, the mistreatment of brown people, going to war in the middle-east based on a lie (that Howard knew was a lie at the time) the selling off of our good reserves at bottom dollar and the housing bubble…all created by greedy, self-serving Tories.

The Hawke/Keating administration is the greatest government in modern Australian history. And daylight is second.

I hope you are correct on the anti corruption front. None of the State bodies are without problems & the ABCs coverage of IBAC is very selective.

That is a delusion, see the ballot box.

Sadly there is not much to show for the ALL the coalition years/governments since Howard. I understand your need to slag the other mob.
Corrected.

The people have selected their representatives. It is our responsibility to give them a fair go.

Dutton is irrelevant. Whether that changes depends on him over the coming 24 months. Doubt he has the intellect for rigorous policy development, nor the diligence. But he will be given the opportunity.

It is now Albanese that is afforded the fair chance - his honeymoon period (as we saw with Fraser, Hawke, Howard, Rudd and Abbott).

The King is dead. Long live the King.

Noone cares about that

Just as noone cares about us running the horrid offshore camps or encouraging situations that saw boats sink.

Even our VC winner, people don't care. Just last night on Facebook one of my friends was recirculating a meme that basically said "no matter what he did, he's still an Australian hero"
I think people will very much care in the not too distant future about our offshore camps and locking up refugees for years and years.

it will be remembered as australias greatest shame in 100 years. There will be a national sorry day for it.

people will look very negatively at us as a generation for allowing it to happen.

That would take all the people who stood and cheered while it happened to discover a conscience that they certainly didn't display at the time.

You’re the deluded one. Howard (as Fraser’s incompetent Treasurer) left Keating an absolute shitshow post the 1983 election and Keating spent a decade letting him know all about it. Keating still lives rent free in that nasty little goblin’s head.

If you don’t believe me you are free to check the evidence for yourself. Many of Keating’s famous barrages are readily available on Youtube. There are published works detailing Keating’s withering takedowns of the miserable little pissant. John Howard was and is literally a living punchline for Keating.

Howard’s response, out of petty spite was to try to dismantle the modern society that Keating largely built.

And we are still paying the price for it.

No. They are similar parties on major policies if you remember Howard’s work choices individual agreements and casual work forces. Well Labor got in power and a Gillard wrote the fair work act. Same crap policy just different name

We have Albo warning us that power prices will still continue to sky rocket. Albos plan for hosing with government chipping in X amount is similar to that of Scotty from marketing, except government will own 20% of it not 20/30k first home buyer grantsz

What happened to house prices after the housing grant was announced. Prices sky rocketed

They are on major policies same crap but different names and colours as they serve the same overlords.

The Greens! Say no more! The hardcore communist party located in inner city electorates whilst pretending to care for the environment and to the hippies and young generations.

Bandit and Di Natalie and other members are hardcore communists. They wrote there thesis in uni on marxist and members along with there parents of the socialist alternative.

For basic communist history, Lenin, the Bolsheviks and the Russian revolution along with the first 60 years of the CCP

So yeah la la lane?
