I'm a VIC member so watching on TV..the stars stood up..but I was ashamed as to the support! There was nobody behind the goals and no support as it came across on TV

I'm fairly sure he did it earlier - it was mentioned earlier that he was having treatment. Not sure it was that early that it caused 1 possession, but maybe with the other carnage it did do it very early and he tried to keep playing.

Geez we are battered out there. Preuss subbed out. Peatling off without replacement. Hogan and Angwin on one leg. Riccardi's head bandaged up. Taylor's chin bandaged up. We look like the defenders of the Alamo before the final Mexican assault.

No dub tonight, but it's good to see the four quarter effort back and we did pretty well considering the injuries we have. Missed our BBMs tonight.
Also Cumming was uncharacteristically fumbly tonight

Game over, 20 point loss.

But, we took the game on until the end and kicked plenty - still much prefer that than a dour slugfest.

Losing both rucks didn't help, plus the rest of the injuries.

Both Green(e)s were huge - Toby 7 goals & Tom 32 disposals.

Greene is unbelievable, Angwin not ready, Peatling non-existent (unless he got injured and I missed it), Riccardi another good one, Green and Cogs were super but were lacking some support, Cumming and Bruhn quiet, Whitfield looks back these last 2 games good to see he wasn’t just beating up on north but it’s translated too top competition, Ash was good, rucks going down hurt us for sure, once again these 3rd quarter fade outs where we just look off the pace are dumbfounding. We’re definitely better and way more fun but we’re giving up heaps of points the last few weeks. It’ll be a fun back end of the season but ultimately a lost year I think.

One kick changed the game. Ward unnecessarily went back from the wing 2 kicks later we were pegged deep in defence. It stayed for a minute down back before they scored. They than scored of consecutive centrebounces and that was it.
Losing Preuss hurt, English had a field day after that. (Although Keefe held his own mostly)
As you'd expect from kids, a bit inconsistent, that cost us.
Best game from Wehr.
Cogs is back.
The Green(E)s amazing
Whitfield looking himself.
Rare dirty day from Taylor and a mixed bag from Cumming who is now one of our most important players.
Although we won the free kicks some important ones went against us.

how many uncontested marks did they take in the forward 50? absolutely horrible.
their transition was also mostly uncontested. one end to the other without the least little bit of pressure. loose players everywhere.

Back from the game....

• That 3rd quarter - oh dear - the less said about it the better.
• Again, an unsettled backline with constant player changes. Played poorly as a team. Keefe played up forward a fair bit which again confuses any structure. HH definitely has a home down back. If Davis returns, Keefe is the most likely to be dropped.
• The midfield was constantly beaten. Not helped by Preuss getting injured.
• This club's injury toll is absolutely ridiculous - something that has been discussed on this board many times as to why.
• The Giants were too 'handball-happy'. So many times the Dogs were waiting for the slow, under pressure handball and pounced.
• Too many times we were outnumbered, be it at the drop of the ball or general play. Fitness? Coaching? Whatever it is, they seemed to have spares constantly.
• Toby Greene had a blinder (and got a number of frees - hard to believe, I know).
• This team has its moments - a 3 goal loss is very respectable, but until the team fixes its injury issues and player positions are sorted out, the inconsistency will continue to frustrate.

Honestly, a few negatives in that game but it's by far the most impressed I've been with one of our games all year, this attacking style is exactly what we were begging to see for the past two years and we look our best doing it. This could go down as the most watchable game of the year, even if it wasn't close in the end.

We paid the price for going too tall in defence, if we had a small defender (Cooper Hamilton would've been good) early then Weightman and West don't get free so easily inside 50 and we give ourselves more of a sniff.
And the need for some more quality KPF depth/ youngsters coming through is becoming more obvious, outside of Hogan and Riccardi (HH as well but I think he should stay in defence, or worst case play on the wing) we don't have an AFL quality tall forward

We have some defenders horribly out of form this year, Taylor, Idun and Haynes the biggest culprits. Really lacking a general down there and the extra responsibility perhaps on Sam to lead it has had a negative result on his form. Could be something for list management to address, if we can find another Heater type to bring in, it might be worth looking at. To lose by 3 goals with no ruck for most of the game to a decent side is still a improvement on where we were at 6 weeks ago. Happy with the performance.

Random thoughts.
Overall, it was a good performance under duress and self-inflicted wounds.
We are a team that needs a pressure small forward (Peatling) and a big ruck (Preuss).
When they both got injured, it was a struggle. But they never gave in.
What looked like a great ruck double team became bad when Flynn withdrew and a disaster when Preuss went down early.
We made English look like Max Gawn

Angwin looked a bit lost, but I will give him the benefit of the doubt with his injury making him ineffective.
Keeffe probably played his best game for the year.
Wehr looked good again.
Idun is a decent kick, but I don't think he hits targets by handball.
Toby, just wow. Love him.
Cogs and Green were very good. Cogs moves so well now and Green has elite composure.
Defence was set up strangely. At one point, we had Keeffe, Sproule, Taylor, HH, Haynes and Idun as the back 6.
I will echo the disappointment on the size of the crowd. The cheer squad did good work trying to create some atmosphere.

had a game you can expect from him, genuine superstar.
You guys saying Cogs and Green were good in the middle but the Bulldogs smashed us out the middle losing clearances by 12 and contested possession by 23. Our midfield tried hard but were embarrassed by Liber, McCrae & Bont. We didn't have a ruckmen for 3qtr of the game so that probably didn't help.
Taylor had a fantastic first half but the lack of pressure from up the ground led to Naughton getting off the leash in the last half.
Wehr looks great!
Ward gets caught holding the ball a lot now and it is probably time to phase him out.
Bruhn got a bit of a reality check but still only his second year and love that he is starting to get big midfield minutes which hopefully means he stays because he will be a gun.
Ash looks reinvigorated in the midfield! Will be a jet.
Keefe is a real tryer and I can see why the coaches love him.
Brander is not an AFL footballer and neither is Sproule.
Really liked the games of Riccardi & Hogan together.
Himmelberg showed his massive weakness in one on ones and was beaten constantly in the air even by players 6 inches shorter than him.
Haynes... Where is he at right now? Took 2 marks for the entire game and 0 tackles. We need to get Leek Aliir up to speed quick smart.

All in all I think it was a positive game because we got games into players who are young and they got to play on some pretty good opponents. Also by losing means we should definitely finish bottom 6 now which gives us a great draw for next year and a better draft pick.

Yeah agreed. It is going to be interesting seeing how the team lines up in the next game. Should have a few back although we may lose a few. You would think Briggs is finally going to get a good run at the ruck and a chance to prove he is our premier ruckman if Flynn has a quad and Preuss has a bad ankle?

The disappointing thing with Preuss is he has real potential. At stoppages around the ground, once he gets position, he is dominant. And he can take a grab.
