More strawman stats.

Shock horror, AJ Brown (a damn fine receiver) gets targeted a lot more than other receivers because defences roll man coverage to him cause they don't fear any other Titan receiver and Tannehill throws it his way regardless of the coverage.

Also teams putting 8 in the box to counter Henry and being forced to play man coverage might have something to do with it.

gets pressed (much) less than you would expect going by that theory.

Nah my theory is based on being in man coverage not press specifically.

But interesting that the original graph proclaims Brown the best WR in the league against press coverage, yet sees so little of it.

Also of note, neither graph actually shows his win rate. More insight into the defence that is rolled out to counter him and Henry than any remarkable proclamation about Brown.

What it tells me (with both graphs) is Brown doesn't face a lot of press coverage in man because opposing defences are more worried about stopping the run so if Brown beats the press coverage it likely will be a house call.

It also tells me that Tannehill will throw the ball to Brown when his number is called regardless of the coverage.

Does make sense though that if you are really good at something, defenses are going to give you that look as little as possible. No doubt that Henry in the mix probably scews the stats. Anyway, it will be interesting to see how the Titans O fairs this season.

Agree with your take here, my comments are more directed at the original twitter who makes a grandiose proclamation based on stats, but the stats don't really bare that out.

As an example, Tyler Lockett excels in beating press coverage according to this graph, but a further game film analysis shows him lined up in press but doesn't necessarily beat it initially. It is only after Russ Wilson runs around like a headless chook for 10 seconds behind the line of scrimmage before finding a wide open Lockett whose defender got bored covering him that it counts as beating press.

Brown has also been playing with one of the hardest RB's to tackle. Teams would load the box to try and stop Henry, and given the Henry factor if teams would use a "star" it would be more likely a tackler than a coverage DB playing that position, or just playing more base sets.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports that Saints EDGE Marcus Davenport had the top portion of his left pinkie amputated.

Davenport has dealt with a nagging left pinkie injury since college after he tore ligaments in his finger. He had surgery on it in 2021, but the plate that was inserted broke, requiring three more surgeries, an infection, and ultimately the amputation of the top of his left pinkie. Davenport was already playing with a severely bent pinkie and does not think the amputation will affect his on-field performance. Davenport, who the Saints selected with the No. 14 pick in the 2018 draft, will play this season on his fifth-year option. He'll be looking to build on 2021's career-high nine sacks.

At least J Shuttlesworth is happy...

CBS Sports's Josina Anderson reports the Panthers "are still doing its due diligence in terms of looking into QB Baker Mayfield, the football player and the person."

Anderson's note that Carolina is looking into Mayfield "as a person" is interesting because all previous reports have painted his contract as the only hangup in a potential trade. It's possible that the Panthers don't see him as a perfect cultural fit, though Mayfield has generally drawn praise from his teammates and coaches, sans Odell Beckham. Sam Darnold currently has the inside track to starting in Week 1 despite an atrocious 2021 season. If he struggles in camp, the Panthers could hand the reigns to rookie Matt Corral or pull the trigger on Mayfield.

ESPN's Dan Graziano reports the NFL fined Commanders head coach Ron Rivera $100,000 "due to excessive contact in practice drills" during OTAs.

The league will also strip the Commanders of two OTA practices in 2023. Meanwhile, Texans head coach Lovie Smith was fined $50,000 for conducting prohibited one-on-one drills between offensive and defensive linemen. As the NFL's forward-looking franchises ease off on intense OTA and minicamp practices, the league's old-school coaches haven't gotten the memo. Washington continues to make headlines for all the wrong reasons. Last week, Rivera fined defensive coordinator Jack Del Rio $100,000 for his comments about the January 6 riot at the U.S. Capitol.

ESPN's Todd Archer reports Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy was fined $100,000 "for holding practices that were deemed too physical by the NFL."

McCarthy was also fined by the league in 2021 for violations of OTA policies. The Cowboys will be docked one OTA session in 2023 as part of the punishment. The NFL also fined Washington head coach Ron Rivera and Texans head coach Lovie Smith for conducting drills that violate the NFL's OTA policies.

Pift. coultnt even go the full Ronnie Lott.

Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer reports the Browns are willing to pick up half of Baker Mayfield's salary in a trade.

The Panthers would only do a Mayfield trade “if it’s a bargain,” according to Breer, with Sam Darnold already making $18 million on a fifth-year option. Paying $9 million of Mayfield’s salary is closer to the reported $13 million the Panthers asked the Browns to cover at the draft. Carolina’s renewed Mayfield interest is a bad sign for third-round QB Matt Corral. The Mayfield market is expected to heat up ahead of July’s training camp.

How desperate are you if you think only paying half of Bakers contract is a "bargain"... if anything its the Browns getting the deal by getting any day 2/3 draft capital and only being on the hook for half of his money.

Exciting times as a Panthers fan, yearly disappointment coming earlier this season :disappointed:

I love keeping round lame duck coaches so they can make desperation moves to go 5-11

Could be worse. you could be a Browns fan blindly defending a sexual predator. At least when the Panthers had one they forced him to sell the team
