Review Dogs overcome first quarter blues to beat Hawks 125-83

Richards was awesome before going off. Very weird quirk in our Great game that the head is protected at all possibilities, other than in a marking contest where itā€™s celebrated if the forward can slam a knee in to the back of the defenders scone.

Anywhere else on the field, thatā€™s a free kick. Seems like a strange inconsistency that needs to be phased out if we are to take concussion seriously.

10 contested marks from our KPF's with a very even contribution (JUH 4, Schache 3, Naughton 3) is very satisfying.

Sweet comes out for English but he certainly wasn't awful. Was way better when our mids started to fire. 32 hitouts, 1 goal and 5 tackles. We are 8-1 with him in the side so he's obviously not a liability.
I fear sweet v mcinerney if English isnā€™t right to go.

His second half was good but he was as bad as our mids in the first quarter.

What the hell was that?!

Beveridge had a plan B?!?!

Full team performance. A little annoying they kicked a heap in the last quarter but we'll take it.

Jordon Sweet has to stay in imo.
How? Schache kicked 2 and had 7 marks

Bevo fiery in his presser? What did he say?
He essentially walked in and said Im a busy man and couldn't be ****ed doing this but its mandated by the league.

So I'll flick cold chips at you seagulls for no more than 8 minutes.

Thought the team defended Jiath's run really well. Looked to me like a deliberate focus to carrel and stop him gaining metres off half back.
Loved in the 3rd where we let him take 4 useless sideways bounces until Libba turned on the jets and his only option was to sit it in the middle of 3 dogs

JJ not getting sucked into the ball carrier & tackling Jiath was a big momentum changer. They were all over us before that.

Senior players got to work in 2nd quarter, bit of pride dented early with nobodies running rings around them. Great response.

West is a jet.

I liked Schacheā€™s game.

Naughton is an animal.

Macrae, Libba & Bont enormous when it mattered.

Promising signs from Jamarra. Heā€™ll take plenty out of that.

Thought Scott was connecting up well there when we got warm.

Main knock was the defense. Geez we looked shaky all night and Hawks are rubbish.

Bevo coming in hot to the presser and laying down the ground rules like a Boss before he even took his seat.

Don't ever change you wacky combative bastard.

always fighting the good fight that man, criminally under rated on this forum

he not only sees the big picture, heā€™s trying to paint it

Credit to Sweet for turning it around.

Gardner is far from the first key defender that Lewis has gotten on top of in pure marking contests, and as people have pointed out, he did well outside of those with 20 touches and 9 contested - mopping up and moving the ball along at a good rate for a key defender.

Worth noting that Reeves also had a career best game according to the rating points. Sweet got better as the game went on, but we're clearly a much, much better team with English in it maybe wouldn't be fully against the idea of Schachr first rucking next week
